not sure exactly what question you are asking here megazord? i think you need to give some lines where you think black is in difficulty or can't play for a win. to be sure there are lines of the chigorin where white is better, in many lines white will secure better long term prospects at the cost of allowing black piece activity and the chance to build an initiative. you don't usually get something for nothing in this world.

The chigorin defense Understanding question

I recently purchased Nigel davies dvd on the Chigorin defense.  Davies does a pretty good job in the video, as  far as presenting the theory and some ideas, but there are major flaws.  There exist several lines actually quite a few where black reaches positions where the placement of his pieces restrict whites center. Since whites center cant move, whites bishop pair remains blocked in by the center pawns.  It seems from the video that once black reasches the positions where his rooks and queen and knights are ideally placed for restricting whites center he has reached the zenith of his position, or maxed out his position.  In other words if he tries to win, he risks letting whites center roll and bishop pair become active. How should black play for a win? I may be completely wrong, let me know what you guys think.
