S-F: Lower players=low rated players? Who are you referring to?

Vis. Anand   GM  2792
Vladimir Kramnik   GM  2769
Alexander Morozevich   GM  2758
Peter Leko   GM  2751
Levon Aronian   GM  2750
Peter Svidler   GM  2735
Boris Gelfand   GM  2733
Alexander Grischuk   GM  2726

Those below 2760? 2750?

Aronian does look like a good dark horse bet.

Yes, Anand did win the FIDE knock-out tournament, but it's hard to consider those titles as World Championships when Kramnik and Kasparov were sitting them out.

I would like Anand's chances more if it was a single round robin and fewer games.  Kramnik will be able to show his stamina and skills enough to beat up on the lower players and score.

It should be fun!

Aronian - if he can improve his white repertoire will win- he's definitley on the up and must have gained confidence beating Kramnik in their rapid match.
I'd love Moro to do well but I just think he's too unpredictable but if he plays like he did in the second half in Linares you never know !

When I see how many problems Aronian had with black against Carlsen, I am afraid it will very difficult for him to win the tournament.
And Moro is bit of a modern Ljubojevic: on his good days he is genial but the tournament will be too long. Cry

I am sure Kramnik will have a solid +2 tournament.

Anand and other 1 e4 players simply won't win with white unless they have some great ideas v the Marshall or the Anti Marshall or even the Petroff !

I predict a few Najdorfs from Black players trying to win !

I think Anand can do well if he gets off to a good start but I think that Gelfand should not be underestimated. He's usually well prepared and he does have huge experience.

I'd love Moro to do well but I just think he's too unpredictable but if he plays like he did in the second half in Linares you never know !

Anand is the next best player in the world and I hope he gets to be world champion some day.  (It had better be soon, because the next generation is already chomping at the pacifier ummm... bit.

I really hope you are wrong. I dont know what it is with Kramnik (or me of course), but I dont like him.

Personally I root for Gelfand.

Well in stead of having the best players in we get another idiotic round after the tournament to decide the "real" WC yet again. It is a bit like a FIFA WC where Brazil isnt competing and Italy is defending the title, but both get the chance to play for the title afterwards again if someone else wins.

I should prolly stop my ranting about FIDE, so as to not completely derail this thread.

Anyway, if I were a betting man I'd go for Aronian or Anand as the new champ in Mexico. Kramnik may go thru unbeaten, but I doubt he'll win enough games to win the tm.

Notwithstanding my dislike of the person Topalov, he should have been there. I have some doubts on Chuckie though. He has played only in one absolute top event this year (Linares) and was not too convincing.

Yes, it's a pitty that such players as Ivanchuk and Topalov are not among the participants.

I think Kramnik will win if he can hold his game level of the last few months. Either Leko and Anand are not without chances.
