Yes, I finally have the book but didn't offer an opinion as I was still busy forming it.  A quick opinion (after the first 50 or 60 pages) is that the book is excellent, but that the positions aren't necessarily suited to me personally. Still, time will tell.  I advise anyone with an interest in the Slav to buy the book without hesitation though.

(Everyman...would not be able to print copies as fast as these were ordered)

I was rather under the impression that this was already true for many months!  Grin

I have the ebook version, and in my opinion it is excellent.  I believe very much that Vigus has met his aim in providing a repertoire that doesn't require that much memorization of lines to play (although, of course, learning them helps!) is solid and gives excellent chances to outplay an opponent - there are no dead drawn positions.  Very good!

Another poster opined that for them the lines were only suitable if you wanted a draw, and that black would have to defend well in several lines to get it (I'm paraphrasing from memory - sorry if wrong).  I think it's very much an opinion, and for me at least this doesn't hold true for these lines.

Personally, I thought this about Rizzitano's QGA book for instance.  That repertoire contained several "dead" positions and required much more concrete knowledge in my opinion, although it is still a good book.

I'm tempted to buy the dead tree version of Play the Slav also, as I like both formats.

The biggest problem with the book is that I now need to find an antidote to at least one of the lines for my white repertoire...

Wow!!! - My expectations were quite high but this book is even better!

This book is very good and close to outstanding! 9,5 out of 10 !

Definitly a must-buy for any slav player or starter 1700-2400 !

A nice forword, a fascinating introduction, extensive thoughts about
move orders and repertoire choices, deep analysis, obviously Vigus
(and assistant editor Palliser?!) really have read and analyzed all books
they mention in the long bibliography, many improvements over white
repertoire books, many new suggestions...etc...etc...

Personally I have some very minor reservations (not theoretical but
instructional/paedagocical) about some repertoire choices (9...Bg4
in the Dutch var, 6..Nh5 in the exchange). Of course, these are sound
main lines and no offbeat choices waiting for refutation. But to my
general understanding there are  main lines and main main lines, the
latter ones principially constituating the whole complex. And therefor
should be studied first! - Maybe I should compare to Watson´s
outstanding Play the french vol.3: Most black players expected a
wonderful update on 3...Nf6 Tarrasch. And they got ... a wonderful
coverage of 3...Be7 and 3...c5 4exd5 Qxd5. Some loved this, others
were dissapointed. Most probably those frenchies were right (and
more successful) who added the new lines to their old repertoire, as
main weapon or as new alternative. Disregarding any move-by-move
arguments (I´m too weak a player to do this with Watson) I "believe"
that a deep understanding of 3...Nf6 (and 3...c5 4.exd5 exd5!) is
absolute necessary to play the black side of the Tarrasch (including
the new lines!) really well. Frenchies who start their french career with
vol.3 might face some minor problems (and don´t realize that because
it´s not a problem of the variations). Or they need more time. - And now,
please try to understand me, imo Vigus has omitted vols.1+2 and started,
yes, with an excellent Play the Slav vol.3. - Well, maybe I´m just wrong... -
This point should not be any problem for players with some slav experience,
for players 1900+ or for those who take some days for a lecture of Sadler.
But I want to stress that Vigus is definitly a must-buy for all players ~1700+
and of much use for anyone playing the Slav! Sadly, even for d4 player...

(If Everyman would pose the book´s introduction for a free download on their
website they would not be able to print copies as fast as these were ordered)

Wow.  Now that's what I want my openings to be called!  So is ..Nh5 in the KID and Modern Benoni a Knight to the Left Variation?

Depends on whether you are white or black. Evidently Vigus is writing from a white perspective Wink.

Haven't found any reviews anywhere yet, few people have commented here, but what we need is the kind of review tracke can provide!  Wink I remember his reviews on Caro Kann products which were very useful to me recently in choosing some books..... the fact that he has posted in this thread makes me wonder if he also plays the Slav....
Anyway, I have my copy of Vigus' book on order so will soon have to wait no more.  But a review from me will sadly pale in comparison to that of one from some of our stronger contributors here. Let's hope one appears....

Back in the 'Out now' section again.....they're toying with me.

All this anticipation  Smiley

There hasn't been much feedback from people who have the ebook other than one or two comments about the lines themselves.  That's fair enough, as the lines are obviously central to the whole thing, but is the book readable, well put together?  I liked the sample from the intro, and James Vigus' Pirc book had great reviews, so I'm hoping this one from him will be just as inspirational.

For anyone who is still interested, this book (Play the Slav) has been moved for the third (or is it the fourth?) time, in terms of publication date according to the Everyman website; this time back to the 'Coming Soon' section from the 'Out Now' section it was in last week.....

I expect the minutiae of Everyman's publishing schedule is of no concern to most readers, but for those of us unable or unwilling to buy the ebook it would be nice if they could make their minds up about when the paperback is to become available.      Angry

I'd be inclined to call Ivanchuk-Bu a Gurevich system rather than a Cheb.
