Classicalgames.com and chess4less.com do indeed lead to the same site. For whatever reason, they seem to get chess books in the U.S. earlier than the others. If its says on their site they have it, they do. I ordered the recent  Bologan book from them the day after it showed up on their site and have had it for a little while now, while Amazon still shows it as not being released yet.

chess4less / classicalgames.com seem to be associated with a British chess store. Perhaps the British store sends a shipment of books over to the US more quickly than does the publisher?

The Bologan book was published by Chess Cafe (Hanon Russell's outfit) and was available on chesscafe.com first, several months before it showed up on Amazon or chess4less. The same rule holds for other Chess Cafe books (Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual, presumably the forthcoming Dvoretsky's Analytical Manual as well.) New in Chess seems to have a distribution agreement with Chess Cafe for the European market -- they get the books well before anyone else on either side of the Atlantic.

I'm not sure that's true.  I have the Bologan book and it is published by New in Chess out of Holland. I don't think they're affiliated with Chesscafe, which is a trademark of the publisher Russell Enterprises.  I have books from both publisher and there doesn't seem to be any association between them from what is printed in them.  Content aside, as both have excellent titles amongst their products, the NIC books I own are much nicer and quite different in terms of production values, another reason I don't think they're printed by the same publisher.

The Bologan book referred this time to the best games book, not the a6-slav book.

Yes indeed.  I thought I'd try the fish, but it seems I just can't get a taste for it.  But yes, the fish itself is not to blame, and I recommend it to anyone else unreservedly.  Smiley

Incidentally (and to get back on topic), I'm getting a taste for the fish, the more I have of it.   Wink

I still recommend this book unreservedly!

Chess4less.com has it - NOT SPAM. Amazon would be cheaper...

Amazon.com is the Wal-Mart of books. Wonderful for consumers. ( Maybe not so wonderful for suppliers  Undecided )

Hm.  That's an odd site--seems to be the same as classicalgames.com, and loads a java applet that immediately crashes.

Thanks to both of you for the link, anyway.  I suppose it can't hurt to ask them whether they actually have it.  It would be odd if they did, when Amazon, B&N, and Borders all say it hasn't been released, though.

I guess I was just looking at Amazon U.S., turns out everyone else has it.

As far as I can tell, it's not available in the US at all.

A question for those who have the book: Is it a repertoire book or is it a complete coverage book like his Pirc? I guess I am collecting  Smiley opening books which provides explanation more than just variations. But I am not totally au faire with the Starting Out series and format.

It's a repertoire book.  It's also not a Starting Out title, being more advanced than that.  I don't mean that it isn't suitable for someone new to the defence, as long as they're prepared to put in some work, although it would be fair to say that Matthew Sadler's The Slav is the one to get if you want an intro to the opening and possibly even Glenn Flear's Starting Out The Slav & Semi Slav before you opt for Vigus.

However, without wanting to do Mr Vigus and his excellent work a disservice, if you have already made a preliminary exploration of the Slav and have read enough posts here regarding the lines Vigus recommends, you may be able to bypass the more basic books I've mentioned if you feel that the Vigus repertoire is right for you.

The fact that you've asked the question though suggests that you aren't yet aware of the type of rep he is offering, so I'd be tempted to opt for a more basic overview first.

Hope this helps.
