While the scores might sound a little underwhelming, it is worth noting that we were each among the lowest rated players on our boards.  I suspect automatic promotion is out of reach for this year, but we could still finish strong...

Yep some tough opponents...
Worth a mention is that in my theoretical debates (eg in the Najdorf PP) it all went very well. It is usually later on I screwed up Smiley

Another win for the Chesspublishing team on Board 3 (with an assist from MNb, who encouraged me to turn down a draw and play for the win):

White: Chesspublishing
Black: Anatolian Sun (Turkey)
1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.Nc3 e6 4.g3 Nc6 5.Bg2 d5 6.cxd5 Nxd5 7.O-O Be7 8.d4 O-O 9.Nxd5 exd5 10.dxc5 Bxc5 11.Bg5 f6 12.Bd2 Re8 13.e3 Bf5 14.Qb3 Qd7 15.Rac1 Bb6 16.Bc3 Be4 17.Rfd1 Rac8 18.a4 Qe7 19.Nh4 Qf7 20.Bxe4 dxe4 21.Qb5 g6 22.Ng2 Ne5 23.Bxe5 Rxc1 24.Rxc1 Rxe5 25.Qb4 Qe7 26.Qd2 g5 27.b4 Qe6 28.Rd1 Kf8 29.Ne1 a5 30.Nc2 Qc6 31.b5 Qc5 32.h3 Kg7 33.Qe2 Qc8 34.Kg2 Rc5 35.Rd2 Kg6 36.g4 Qe8 37.Nd4 Bc7 38.b6 Bxb6 39.Rb2 Bc7 40.Rxb7 Be5 41.Qb2 Rc7 42.Rxc7 Bxc7 43.Qb7 Qe5 44.Qc8 Kf7 45.Qd7+ Qe7 46.Qd5+ Ke8 47.Qc6+ Kf7 48.Nf5 Qd8 49.Qc4+ Kg6 50.Qxe4 Kf7 51.Nd4 Kg8 52.Qe6+ Kh8 53.Nc6 Qf8 54.Qd7 Bb6 55.Qb7

Following Khalifman through the opening, the position became rather stale and I disliked my position around move 28; my knight looked woeful...

Smiley Thanks. Still I'd rather had the full point. You don't think the Leningrad Reversed attractive?

The Chess Publishing Team has done well. The team that I play for "Purdy's Centurians" is currently slightly ahead of Chess Publishing but Chess Publishing has unfinished games. I will not be opening 1.f4 in correspondence again. My results with this move were not good.

A quick, beginning of the year update on the Chesspub Champions League team:

We are currently middle of the table, with 20/42, or 48%.  There's a big scrum of teams between 42-56%, as expected, and we're comfortably in that mix.  A couple of teams got away from the pack, scoring an impressive 66 and 70% thus far.  The crosstable is at: http://www.iccf-webchess.com/EventCrossTable.aspx?id=12254.

On Board 1, Markovich finished on +2, 7/12.
On Board 2, Willempie is even, with 4/8.
On Board 3, I am-2, with 3.5/9.  (I'm hoping for a strong finish: two winning positions in hand, and I won't lose the third, either).
On Board 4, MNb finished on -1, 5.5/12.

While the scores might sound a little underwhelming, it is worth noting that we were each among the lowest rated players on our boards.  I suspect automatic promotion is out of reach for this year, but we could still finish strong...

Meanwhile I am still struggling on in my four remaining ones...
Probable outcome: 1 win 2 losses and 1 draw. The two losses (and all my losses) in particular are kinda emberassing, in particular since this is CC. In an otb game I would not have played this passive.

A disappointing draw on Board 3.  I thought I might be able to win this game (was definitely better throughout), but maybe I missed the correct path

Yes, not sure where though. I would even have fancied my chances at the end, but I suppose that playing such positions on is considered bad form in a correspondence game?

Not really poor form, but I would expect that my opponent is less likely to slip in cc than otb.  My opponent had offered a draw a few moves earlier (which I thought was a tad optimistic).  After that, I spent a couple of weekends bashing through endless variations and plans for White and Black, and just couldn't find anything that reliably led to a win.  Maybe I should have kept fighting.  My three remaining games are promising, however, and I hope I might be able to contribute a little to the win column...

A disappointing draw on Board 3.  I thought I might be able to win this game (was definitely better throughout), but maybe I missed the correct path:
