Yes: Markovich achieved a couple of good draws against strong opposition on the top board.  Much too early to really gauge our progress, but +2 is a nice way to come out of the gate...

Greetings,

I see The Team is in third place, at present, with 4 points (2+ 4= 0-).

Kindest regards,

Not too optimistic - I don't have many winning positions left, if any ...

I think it goes without saying that MNb is going to carry a lot of the slack for the rest of us.  He's going through his opponents like a hot knife through butter!  I wish I could boast any winning positions at the moment.   Undecided

No, corr miniatures. The Rice game was essentially over at move 26, the Mamonovas game was drawn at 26 because of the possibility to repeat the position three times and against Calder I played a winning piece sac at move 15.
The other extreme is my game against the member of the Turkish team: we are at move 13 with a well known position ....

Hey you start making me look like a lazy bum, with no results and certainly no wins so far Wink

I can report my second result: an eventless draw against Mamanovas from Viesulas. I will post the game (a NID, where I was White) later in a seperate thread, together with two other NID games. These are still going on.

Greetings,

They're probably agreeing draws to save themselves for the "new kid on the block".  Cheesy

Thanks, Dragan Glas. It's handy to have some more context for 17.Bf1. Am I right in understanding, then, that 19...Rcd8 is the new move? I looked at 19...h6, but I figured it was only helping White reposition his knight, and the rook was probably more useful keeping an eye on the d-file. I don't remember if 20.Ne4 entered into my thoughts at all or in what manner. Nevertheless, I would be inclined to give 22.Qg4 a ?!--any advantage that White might have had disappears after the d-pawn falls...

Certainly 19 ..., Rcd8 was a new move - although, as I said earlier, my database isn't up-to-date. It could well reach another game position through transposition.

Just to update you...

I've finally added all the TWIC PGN files - so my database is up-to-date ... at least with regard to TWIC(!)

I played through the game again but found no further transpositions, so - for now - your move is a TN!  Grin

The draw was perhaps the best option - there's not much after 26. ..., Nxb7, which I assume would have been his last hope for a swindle, as blundering by grabbing the f-pawn first leads to the embarrassing 26. ..., Qxf2+?; 27. Kh1, Nxb7??; 28. Bc4+, Kh8; 29. Rf1, Qc5; 30. Qa1+ leading to mate. [Just in case there are any newbies looking at the thread and thinking "Why not 26. ..., Qxf2+!?". 27. ..., Kg7 isn't much better - but we'll let them work out that themselves!  Wink ]

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas

It would appear that our team is moving slower than many of the others--not a bad thing.  So far, the Chesspub team has only completed two games: MNb's win and my draw, both mentioned in this thread.  No team (or player at any board) has racked up a number of wins, though a couple of players have managed to finish a few more games...

Yeah, Congratulations, MNb!

Have there been any other decisive results so far?

The first point is in the bag - by me. The game itself is not very interesting, except at one point:

Rice,R - MNb [C80]
CL 2007-1, 01.09.2007

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.0-0 Nxe4 6.Re1 Nc5 7.Bxc6 dxc6 8.Nxe5 Be7 9.d4 Ne6 10.Be3 0-0 11.c4 f6 12.Nf3 f5 and White played prematurely 13.d5, while 13.Nc3 would have been more difficult to meet, eg f4 14.Bc1 Bf6 and only now 15.d5.

Actually, there were some fascinating lines after 18...Qf6, but I couldn't make them work--19.Ng5 was a strong move.  The problem with 19...h6 is that it really stresses the strength of White's knight on g5/e4 compared with Black's which is only now just starting to fall off the board, especially with the d-pawn threatening to roll.  The best place for the knight would be on d6, but there's no good way to get it there.  I suppose 19...h6 removes mating threats with the knight on g5, but I think I prefer my way of handling that with the queen and with a later ...g6...
