I'll be happy to help you with reaching this goal - this is chess and not football. I just helped HgMan to convince himself (doesn't that sound modest?) to play on in a game where he got a draw offered.

Currently at +2 -2 =4 with some goalkeeping on 3 of the 4 boards remaining.

I'm currently sitting on +2 -3 =2, but hope to break even or maybe finish with a +1 score overall if I can nurture a few better positions to the finish line.  Of the remaining 5 games, one has become rather ugly, but I think I am demonstrably better in three of them, and might have an edge with Black in the last...

Around move 22 I thought I was slightly worse. I was very pleased when he decided to transfer his knight to h8. It was a pity he did not allow me to mate him (85.Nc3+ and 86.Ra2 mate).

In fact my best game was a draw, I think:

MNb - Yasakov
CL/2007/FT1 board 4
1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 dxc4 5.a4 Bf5 6.e3 e6 7.Bxc4 Bb4 8.O-O Nbd7 9.Qe2 Bg6 10.e4 O-O 11.e5 Nd5 12.Bd2 Qa5 13.Rfc1 Ne7 14.Nh4 c5 15.dxc5 Qxc5 16.Nb5 Bxd2 17.Qxd2 Nxe5 18.Bxe6 Qb6 19.Nxg6 N7xg6 20.Bf5 a6 21.Nc3 Rad8 22.Qc2 Rd4 23.Rd1 Nc6 24.Ne2 Rb4 25.Rd2 Na5 26.Rad1 Nc4 27.Rd4 Nxb2 28.Rxb4 Qxb4 29.Rb1 Rd8 30.Nc3 Nf4 31.Bxh7+ Kh8 32.Ne4 g6 33.g3 Nfd3 34.Ng5 Re8 35.Qc7 Re1+ 36.Kg2 Qb3 37.Qd8+ ½-½

14...c5 is a novelty as far as I know and it seems to equalize on the spot. I enjoyed the complications later.

Favorite, largely because it was a much needed win that came in this evening:

post your favorite game maybe?

Well, I posted this very interesting draw, but it attracted no attention at the time:

http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1207183205/18#18

I don't know if it's my most interesting game of the lot, but it was quite interesting to play.

I am about to go the exchange up on my very strong Greek opponent SM Jannis Serafim (ICCF 2594).  (SM is a postal title above IM and below GM).  However he will have a pawn as compensation, so the win may be difficult (and the position is somewhat unbalanced, so he could even win if I'm not careful).

The chesspub Champions League team started their quest for chess immortality a year ago tomorrow, so I thought it might be worth a brief update.  We have faced some fairly stiff competition, and currently have a team score of 15.5/31.

Markovich has been pacing us with a strong +2 score (6/10) on Board 1.
Willempie has an even score (4/8) on Board 2.
HgMan is wallowing at 2/5, but promises a few more wins on Board 3.
MNb is at 3.5/8 on Board 4.

Some good chess is still ahead and I'm sure my colleagues will add some interesting games to our results...

What is the link for the results of the ICCF Champions League? Are there any recent results from the past few days in the tournament for the ChessPub team?

Thanks in advance!

Tony K. and Chesspublishing.com have sponsored a team in the new ICCF Champions League.

The team consists of four boards:
1. Markovich
2. Willempie
3. HgMan
4. MNb

Thanks to Tony for the sponsorship--we'll do our best to not be lost coming out of the opening (which probably wouldn't look good for an opening theory site).  In the future, we'll be sure to post some interesting games here.  So far, we are undefeated!

I am also a member of  team in this League. We are in the Champions League 2007 Fast Track Group 2 and have based ourselves on the Playchess engine room and are called - The Playchess Pingers.

1. Eros Riccio (Winner of latest Freestyle and Italian Corr. Champ)
2. Harvey Williamson (me - Current UK Corr. Champ.)
3. Sebastian Boehme (Total Smelly Nutter  Wink )
4. Alberto Gueci (Prizewinner in last Freestyle)

It's been awhile since we updated this thread.  The Chesspub teams currently sits in the middle of the table with a decent 11.5 points from 20 games.  The top of the table is currently standing on 16 points from 25 games, so we're not too far off the pace.  Below is a recent win of mine on Board 3.  The opening was inspired by some discussion on this thread and Tony's analysis on the 1.e4 e5 page:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 d6 8.c3 O-O 9.h3 Na5 10.Bc2 d5 11.d4 Nxe4 12.dxe5 Bc5 13.Re2 Nc4 14.b3 Nb6 15.b4 Be7 16.Nd4 Bd7 17.Bf4 c5 18.bxc5 Bxc5 19.Bxe4 dxe4 20.Rxe4 Rc8 21.Qf3 Nd5 22.Re1 Be6 23.Rd1 Qb6 24.Be3 Nxe3 25.Qxe3 b4 26.Kh1 Rfd8 27.Qf3 Rxd4 28.cxd4 Bxd4 29.Nd2 Bxa1 30.Rxa1 Qd4 31.Rd1 Rd8 32.Qb7 Bxa2 33.Qc7 h6 34.Qa5 Bc4 35.Rc1 Qxd2 36.Rxc4 b3 0-1

Well, imo this is the only way to play an entirely new opening in Silicon Age. Thanks to you as well, I have added the notes and will consider them seriously next time I meet the KID.

I'd say that could be heading into a rather good "race"-type position for Black

Yes, I first thought the e2-knight could go to c1 and b3 but this is certainly to slow in the race.

Quote:
10.Qd2 looked like a reasonable move, it has been practiced by some strong players, I thought it a good idea to have f2-f4 available.

According to this thoughts you played a creative game - you had an idea, made a plan out of it and looked what happened.

I had a look at some theory after 7...Nh5 - I like the following variation:
8.Bc2 e5 9.d5 Ne7 10.a4 f5 11.exf5 gxf5 12.Ng3 Nf4 13.Ra3
White has kept his bishop safe (on c1), started play on the queenside (gaining space with a4) and has a very concrete answer to blacks counterplay on the kingside with 12.Ng3 and 13.Ra3. I am always frightened if white playes Ra3 somewhere cause this rook can do terrible things on the queen- and on the kingside.

Thanks for this game - it gave me some new insights to the KI  Smiley
