No, on the video sample one can clearly see the line he examines:

1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 g6 3.c4 Bg7 4.Nc3 Bg4 5.g3 Bxf3 6.exf3 e6

So he recommends meeting 2.Nf3 with g6 which allows e4. One can transpose into a Pirc of course, but Czech Pirc players cannot transpose back into their King pawn defense (1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 c6). 

Furthermore, I don't think 5.g3 is critical, just a sideline he considers. Much better is 5.e4.

I agree with SmyslovFan about  Bf5. To me either Bf5 after Nf6 or the Wade (1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 Bg4) or usually countered by Black playing Qb3. It's more than annoying...

Here's one idea of how to crush Black.  (Yes, I know Tukmakov outrated his opponent by about 300 points, but the plan itself was devastating.)

alumbrado's recommendation has a high pedigree!

World Champions such as Lasker, Capa, and Tal have played and other notables, including Topalov, Dzindzi, Miles and Larsen have also tried it.

Don't get too excited though.  Despite the endorsement of strong players, it has a poor score.  White wins nearly half of all games, and Black is lucky to score 1/4 wins.  Black may seem to be one step ahead, but White gains control of the center fairly easily and from there even the best players in the world don't get much for the surprise value of the opening.

1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.c4 Bf5!? is an interesting deviation from more mainstream openings.  Yrjölä & Tella cover this as a back-up line (2...Bg4 is their main recommendation) in their Explosive Chess Opening Repertoire for Black (that title always makes me laugh as in several of the lines in the book, Black offers to play a slightly inferior queenless middlegame - it is anything but explosive for the most part!).

It is particularly good, in my view, once White is committed to Nf3 as White cannot easily take control of e4.  Of course the line 4.Nc3 g6 4.Nh4 Bd7 5.e4 is very similar to a KID but if Black is familiar with the quirks, he will be one step ahead of White 99 per cent of the time.

I wouldn't get too carried away with 1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5.  In spite of Yrjola & Tella's enthusiasm, life needn't be so simple for Black...

No one's commented yet on this DVD, upcoming. Usually news travels fast.

A good question is how does Davies propose avoiding a simple transposition to a KID, since after 1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 , e5 is at least temporarily ruled out (1.d4 d6 2.c4 e5 is great for Black I think). 

My guess is he goes for 1.d4 d6 2.Nf3 g6 3.c4 Bg7 4.e4 Bg4 5.Be2 Nc6 6.Be3 e5 7.d5 Bxf3 8.Bxf3 Nd4
and then Bxd4 exd4 

if Black plays c5 White takes en passant and then could play e5 himself to discover an attack on c6 (abd Black's rook). This looks like it favors White. If White doesn't take the Knight, then it's probably at least equal, but that's just my personal opinion...
