Surely Greece must be counted in as they've won before, but seriously, drawing against Norway can't be a good sign...

I guess I should have been sad for Norway not qualifying, but I would probably be embarrassed on behalf of my country to see their play in the Champs!

BTW, I'm glad England didn't make it. Not that they play that badly, but I'm just tired of the newspapers over-estimating them every single time. I just don't understand why they are always counted among the hottest candidates for medals (at least in the Norwegian media).

Well, I've watched the game and we should have definitely beaten you. Our keeper was fouled many times (including during the 1st Norwegian goal). I like tough games, but that was a bit illegal.. at least to my Mediterranean eyes!

I think Greece has a decent squad. Our attack has improved somewhat and Her Otto Smiley  Smiley has managed to renew the squad in a decent way. Still, it seems a bit far-stretched to put Greece as a favourite for the medals. I'll be glad if we perform well and won't be dissapointed even if we don't qualify for the next round.

As for Spain and England, what can anyone say: constant dissapointment. I like to bet on Euro games and never tried my luck with these two as they are so incosistent re performance..

I do not understand this thread.  There is no soccer tournament next summer - it was cancelled on Wednesday night due to a disturbance arising in the Balkans.

Denmark actually failed to qualify to the Euro Cup 1992 they later won. Balkan disturbances of another sort gave Denmark the possiblility to participate.

By the way Alumbrado, what do you think of the croatian chessboards? Nice colours, isn't it? Wink

It's difficult to see a clear favourit for this EC but I think Greece (easy qualification, very effective game style) and Zwitserland (very good defence, maybe the best in Europe now and hoelm advantage) could surprise.
Italy doesn't lose matches but are they able to win against the strong teams?
Germany could go far if they play as agressively as during the WC but are they able to do this?
France is a lot weaker without Zinedine "Coup de boule" Zidane
Spain will burn again in the group stage or in the quartet-finals (business as usual)
Czechia has become old and without Nedved and Poborsky they lack creativity
The other teams are, imho, there to get 16 participants at the start of the tournament

I am putting my money on Greece.
They have the best coach imo (if only we had Otto as coach Undecided) and their win to qualify in Turkey was impressive. One loss against Turkey at home and a draw away in Norway (which they should have won) make for some majorly impressive stats.

They have the advantage that in the poules they stay at the same spot and that every opponent will be favourite.

I was going to wait until I saw the draw, but I like Italy as well.  Cannavaro remains one of the best defensive players in the world, and Italy will be sporting a full defensive complement by Euro 2008.  Germany is getting better, too.  And I already mentioned my soft spot for Spain.  I don't like France as much; they're a combination of too old and too young...

Mnb,
You may want to read this:

Especially the part of the consultant is imo exactly what is wrong.

Quote:
Of zoals Mark van Bommel treffend aangaf: "Ik kreeg door Van Basten het gevoel dat ik niet meer kon voetballen".

If this had been written on this site, I would have nominated it as Quote of the Year. Free translation: Van Basten made me feel that I had no football skills anymore.

In addition to Lou Cyber: never rule out Italy for the title. Last ten years Italy gradually plays more and more attractive; I strongly hope the team will continue on this path. I used to hate Italy, esp. vs Germany. Now another national team is subject of my wrath. Any team that eliminates P******l immediately has my sympathy.

Hi,

now that the qualification matches are over I think it might be a good idea to look forward to this event - and back to qualification.

1. Best qualifier
Germany, bought the ticket first, but played lousy afterwards.

2. Worst qualifier
That´s easy, Austria and Switzerland. Perhaps Italy for their pathetic ultras, though that is mainly a club problem.

3. Luckiest qualifier
Russia

4. Most missed:
English speakers!!

5. Candidates for the Champion
Spain, Germany, France

Comments pls, Lou

To try to put a positive spin on this: it would be wonderful to see Spain win.  They've had a very good squad for some time and they play a very attractive game.  I wouldn't go so far as to say they've been unlucky not to win anything in the past decade, but my instinct is that their finishes in Euro and World Cups have been somewhat disappointing considering their abilities.  Frankly, I think they've been more hard done by in recent years than any other side.  They bring real quality and it would be nice to see them stick it out...

England is out  Grin

I know that long time ago.

McLaren ??
Beckam ?? (This guy is only good to sell t-shirts in japan. With José Mourinho, he will be out of this team in the first day).
Crouch ?? (What a joke  Grin With this guy, England is playing with ten every game).

Netherlands-Portugal 2006 - Everything started with Boulahrouz. If that game was Netherlands-England, what the english papers would say?

Quote:
Pity Portugal made it. I will do my best to avoid watching those s*ck*rs Figo and Ronaldo during the tournament. Bunch of whiners.

Figo is not playing for the country anymore, but if England have Figo and José Mourinho, they would be on the Euro for sure.
This time, England do not need to blame of loosing in penalties anymore and the Euro organizers are very happy because they will not have to deal with hooligans.
Loosing with Croatia at home? What a lesson!  Grin

AAARGHH Angry

Did you (and Mnb) have to bring up that match? I am still undergoing therapy to recover from that disaster in every aspect: Coaching, fair-play, playing in general, refereeing etc, it was all a joke.

Anyway I gave up all hope long ago, since it became clear the coach wouldnt be sacked. Angry
