When u say "the english" - do u only mean 1.c4 ?
What about 1.Nf3 2.c4 / 2.g3 3.Bg2 ....

Have u "solved" that problem yet?

I am looking for an "universal" system against the English and that is the reason why the hedgehog seems interesting to me. My first two moves with black could be Nf6 and e6 and up to white construction, I could go either for the Hedgehog or the Benoni.
One of the reasons why I started to play the dutch (beside the fact I like it) is that it is an universal defense against 1.d4/1.c4/1.Nf3 and so that it is relatively easy to learn for someone with limited time possibilities.

Yusupov once said that “The problem with the Dutch Defence is that later in many positions the best move would be ...f5-f7” but he is surely wrong.

If you like the Leningrad type of structure then I would definitely recommend a Botvinnik system with an early f5 against immediate g3 and Botvinnik lines

e.g 1.c4 e5 2. g3 Nc6 3. Bg2 g6 4. Nc3 Bg7 5.e4 d6 and f5 and Nf6 etc

It depends I would not recommend a stonewall against the english the d3 systems are quite potent against this.

My two cents

Cheers

I am thinking of leaving the Dutch Defense to come back to the Benoni. Now, the reason I left the Benoni were all the anti-Benoni systems and the fact I never found a weapon that could make me happy against the English.
What would you recommend to a player coming from the dutch to play against the English? (this, knowing that I want to avoid systems with f5 as I could have to face classical "dutch" setups, which I'd like to avoid for a time).
