	8 Nf3?? is obviously a lemon that loses the game. I would instead recommend: A 8 Ne2?! with these lines: 8...Qd6 9 d3 Bh6! 10 c3 Nxe2 11 Bxe2 Bxe2 12 Qxe2 Bxf4 when Black is a pawn up to the good; B 8 Be2 Nxe2 9 Nxe2 Qd6 10 d3 Bh6 11 00 000 when Black has the two-Bishop advantage, but material is even, and White can defend himself. It's going to be a tough battle, but better than 8 Nf3??

	Hi pumi, happy new year ! I am slightly off-topic but what all of you guys think of the following variation : 1.f4 d5 2.Nf3 Bg4 3.Ne5 Bf5 4.e4!? (or certainly ?!) It s a kind of differed william's gambit. The point is that after 4...dxe4 5.Qe2 the threat Qb5+ is a little bit annoying, for example 5...c6 6.g4 leads to a complicated game. 4...Bxe4 could be better but maybe white as enough counterplay after 5.Nc3 Nf6 6.Nxe4 Nxe4 7.Qe2 Any thoughts on this ?

	@ All : happy new year and may your wishes come true @ Uberdecker : Completely lost after two moves is not realistic. If chess would be so easy, why do we still play this game?? @ Gambit: The booklet, you've been talking about was my personal inspiration to try this gambit in quick play. But the variation you'ved posted, is allready a critical one to play: 1.f4 d5 2.é4 dxé4 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Qé2 Nc6! 5.Né4: Nd4 6.Nf6:+ gf6: 7.Qd1 Bg4 8.Nf3 Bxf3 9.gf3: Qd5! for example is hard to meet. Thanks for the reminder of 4.Ngé2, I will try this and keep you informed!!

	I play the Williams Gambit on the Internet Chess Club sometimes, and do well with it. Do you have the small 1996 booklet, "The Williams Gambit", by William Williams? If not, you should get it ASAP. Also, look at chesslive.de games with the Williams Gambit. You might find some interesting improvements there. Your posts gave no analyses to begin with! So what if White has the f4-pawn? That might actually be good in some lines, spearheading a Kingside attack. Let's see... 1 f4 d5 2 e4 de4 3 Nc3 Nf6 4 Qe2 You can also try 4 Nge2!? , the Williams-Zilbermints Gambit. Get back to me with your analyses, please. I have New Year's to celebrate!

	1. e4 d6 ; 2. f4 d5 is at least equal for Black, so I leave you to imagine how bad 1. f4 d5 ; 2. e4 ? might be. After 2. ...de, you cannot even dissolve the e-pawn as in the BDG. White is completely lost, which is quite an accomplishment on move 2. You know, there ARE off-beat openings that give you a fîghting chance. Why not try those ?

	Two years ago I discovered a nice and for me promising Gambit: 1.f4 d5 2.é4 (the Williams Gambit) Funny to play as a surprise weapon in quick play for once, but not for twice. So I ceased playing it for a while. Reviewing my repertoire for the next quick play tournament in 2oo8 I stumbled again over my ancient analyses of this opening and couldn't find any improvements. So my question: Is this opening line still refuted, or are there new ideas discovered which I miss ?? Thanks for your useful cooperation !!
