Well, the reason that it hasn't properly been answered ... is that we are currently working on adding a section download button to the Archive frontend! In the last few days we have added a Zip option to the PGN Archive, and assuming this works alright (so far it has) we will then increase the max games limit, and then add the section drop-down list.
Incidentally, even now it shouldn't take more than a minute to download any one section!

Okay, it worked! Now I hope I don't sound too dense, but short instructions would be nice for us first time users. Just a paragraph or two explaining the main functions of the site, for instance.
There is the Site Info link at the top of each page, and this can be quite helpful. It is rather small, though, so very easy to miss!
P.S. You are probably missing some games as you can still only download 1000 games at a time!
