I've dabbled with this, but not much success. Sometimes I get this "no variations" error, and sometimes I don't get the lines I'm expecting.

I suppose it comes down to precisely the content of the Tree/Book database that the repetoire print is based on. I didn't spend much time trying to get it to work, but then it might be nice to get my personal Repetoire database in a handy book format.

But oh, what if it fell into the hands of the opposition  Shocked

@Markovich

In ChessBase 9, this function is ok, but for what I think you want to do, I don't think its fully satisfactory.  The principal probem is that you are somewhat at the mercy of the program in terms of what it picks for the table and what it puts in the footnotes.

To try it:

1. Select a game or a couple of games and hit <shift><enter> to save them into a tree.

2. Select <file><print><repertoire> to generate an ECO-style table, along with footnotes.

You get a nice looking table, but there doesn't seem to be any ability to customize it, to move things around, etc.  I suppose you could go back into the underlying game files and re-order the variations there, but I didn't try doing this, so have no idea how much of an effect it would actually have.

Hello Markovich:

As Kylemeister says, Chessbase does allow you to print a game, e.g. your KID opening, as a repertoire - table + notes.

I have used it but cannot easily find a way to tweak it like you want.

Steve Lopez wrote a series of Chessbase "tutorials" that are on the web somewhere and maybe he has covered this topic. I remember seeing it but cannot find it now. I think they were called T-Notes.

Take care,

Gerry

I don't know anything about this, but about a decade ago John Watson wrote of Chessbase, "Most remarkable is the ability to merge hundreds of games, with notes, into a single file which is automatically available in ECO-style output.  This can be the basis for the most thorough possible research of a given opening line, and I highly recommend such a procedure to the average player."

Software for MCO-style tables?

Is anyone aware of chess software that takes a detailed set of variations in any given format, pgn for instance, and turns it into nice, MCO-style tables, doing a good job along the way in deciding which lines should be columns and which should be notes?

I once wrote some software that did precisely this for my own personal data base, which I built back in the early 90's, but I abandoned it long ago.  Now I am seeking similar functionality and can't seem to find it.  Bookup, for example, is rather dull-witted in its method of constructing MCO-type tables, and the result really can't be clipped into a notebook for future reference.
