All I ment was that the game seems to have become more predictable with increased knowledge about openings and strategy.

I'd buy stocks in Fischer Random... in 20 years people are going to start playing that instead I think.

Back in the romantic days of chess people seem to enjoy playing for the beauty of it. Nowadays people only play to keep their rating which means not plalying for a win all thte time.

While I embrace technology and its benifits how much of a threat does it represent  to the game itself? COuld it be possible for a computer someday to play perfect chess to the point where the only hope for a human being will be a draw?  I think that day is fast approaching! Lets face it though computers are machines & chess is played by human beings   

Obviously the biggest aid that computers have brought is in preperation & analysis. Now for an ethical question: Lets say I'M playing for the world championship (dreaming)  and my opponent comes up with a theoretical novelty in the semi-slav & I lose the game. After the game I run to my hotel room where I find my trusty group of theorists & computers and we manage to spy a weakness in this new novelty with the aid of computers & my trusty teams of theorists.   

Now is this kind of unethical? I mean its me against my opponent right! But by taking the above mentioned approach I'M just a puppet remembering the hard work of my crack team of theorists & computer programs! ISn't the purpose of competition supposed to be putting a persons skill against another without the aid of 'enhancments' ala steroids, adrenaline boosters, etc.   

Look at golf where the game has been besieged by the long ball. It has gotten so bad that classic courses have been rendered obsolete because of technology. It was getting so bad that they issued a C.O.R limit on drivers to try & keep some semblance of sanity to the game. I think if people research the issue of technology and how it is effecting other sports they will see in alot of circumstances that the end result has not been good! In the highest level of chess competition or match is the enlistment of computers & teams of theorists an illegal 'enhancement?' 

P.S. Look at the issue of BArry Bonds and his alleged  use of streoids! While he has blazed a fantastic trail in baseball becuase of these so called 'enhancements ' does this make him a much better ball player then HAnk Aron who by the way did it on his own merit & skill?!? Could not be said the same for Gm'S before the computer age or should I say the age of enhancment?
