I guess if there was something in the closed sicilian you wanted to understand, he'd be one of the top people on this planet to ask.

Or what about how one goes about defeating a player like Petrosian in a match?

If you look in one of the New In Chess Magazines, there was an article about him around pages 38-46. I can't remember which magazine, but I think it was one of the mid-2004 issues. This article may provide you with some interesting questions for him outside the subject of chess.

Why didn't he play the Kings Gambit more often in his career.

Certainly not meant as an incendiary comment, given that you're such a big King's Gambit fan yourself!  Grin

Boris Spassky is one of my favorites, but I doubt I would ask him any chess questions.   There are other areas of his life that would be more fascinating to me to hear him expound upon.

As a young man, Boris was quite the Lady Killer.  I'd rather hear about some of these conquests than how he feels about the Kronstein scene in James Bond for the hundreth time.

I am not a good fan(atic).

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

I would ask about his games against Tal and Bronstein.

I would also ask for him to comment on Kasparov's coverage of his games against Karpov in My Great Predecessors.

I would NOT ask about his matches with Fischer.  He has already answered enough of those questions.

Another interesting set of questions for Spassky would be:

Which player(s) today most resemble his own style and philosophy of chess.

and

What would he most like to be remembered for in chess?

(Or, what does he consider to be his greatest contribution to modern chess?)

Ask him why he didn't play the Kings Gambit more often in his career.

I am going to see a lecture by Spassky soon,  I am wondering about what question to ask him at the end.
There's just so many  Cheesy
One i'd like to ask is given he's played all the greats, especially BF, AK and GK which one was the strongest what was the different features of playing them.

Or Why he agreed to play the 3rd game in a closed room in 1972
Maybe he'll mention these in the lecture.

any other ideas of what to ask about?
