It's the Breyer and 1.d4 as already mentioned and the Gruenfeld.  http://www.newinchess.com/Shop/Images/PDFs/955.pdf

Too bad, I would have enjoyed reading them. I promise I wouldn't have responded to any with bolded text or capitalizing...that would be very bad and the posts would have deserved deletion.

We must preserve order on here at all costs!!!

The cost appears to have been the end of the conversation.

It looks to me that the conversation is still ongoing. Alias decided to start a new thread due to the new title. In any case, the whole incessant need to segregate posts and sterilize them has definitely resulted in truncated conversation. I know that I post less. Besides, even if I'm overwhelmingly positive, 80% of the time (unless I go after a much beloved author or a forum member) I get no response at all.

Interesting - he's recommending the Grunfeld in the new book.

Somehow I think the change in repertoire choice has more to do with Sicilian problems than the exchange ruy.

If Kaufman will be recommending 1.d4, and given that Watson's 'Strategic repertoire' book will also advocate 1.d4, I think we will see a large swing toward 1.d4 among amateurs in 2012!

I'm still learning the repertoire in the original 'Chess Advantage in Black and White', which I settled on a few months ago. It seems a very logical, consistent repertoire to me.

Although the Exchange Ruy might or might not be toothless at GM level, I've found that at my amateur level (~2000 Elo) it's very effective - and also a good educational tool for learning endgame play. What's more, it's a basis to build upon - later in my chess life, I might learn the 'proper' Spanish, but I'll always have a solid, strategic, weapon against 1.e4 e5 if I need it.

Another nice feature of the repertoire is that, as one gains experience in the Berlin endgame as Black, it also prepares one to enter the endgame as White (rather than the somewhat stale Re1 lines advocated in the book).

No, what I suggest is that books spanning several theory sections be discussed under General Chess, not under some particular theory section. I mistakenly took the subject of this discussion as 1...e5, non-Spanish, because that was the section in which it appeared.

Cool, I agree completely.  Smiley

Do you suggest that there be several threads devoted to each sub-section of the book? It would seem easier to have all the discussions in the one thread, but you're the moderator.

This Topic was moved here from 1. e4 e5 - Non-Spanish [move by] Markovich.

My apologies to those whose posts were deleted. I should have moved this here in the first place. Mea culpa. I try my best.

It is perhaps useful to point out, however, that the original thread was in the 1...e5 non-Spanish section, the topic header plainly said C20-C59 (or something of the kind), and posts not on topic are subject to summary deletion.
