There are now details about the book from Ivan Sokolov Winning Chess Middlegames ,An Essential Guide to Pawn Structures at the NewinChess website, bookpublisher program. I hope it will not be too basic?!

there are also two new opening books announced, 1.b3 and the Lion .

I'm looking forward to Sokolov's pawn structure book ...

Please provide details.

Thanks

That's pretty difficult. I only know he's writing one.

Very interesting Willempie. So we are awaiting 3 more books from qualitychess. It would be great if Aagard could tell us more...
By the way, Gambit will inform in July which new books are pa´lanned.

The chess stars website is surprisingly silent , no information about the next Volumes of the Kramnik and Anand Series...

Quality Chess announced today 27/6  that the King's Gambit book they have slated for release for some time originally by Jan Pinski will in fact now be written by John Shaw with a Sept 2008 realease date.
It will be interesting to find out what sort of book this will be? Comprehensive theory/Starting Out/Repertoire? The blurb states John (an IM I think) has played the opening himself.Certainly the Quality Chess Opening books released so far judging mostly by reports on this forum have been well received.

BTW, What's going to be in Mastering the Openings Volume 3?  All the non-1.e4 and 1.d4 lines?

Cheers!

"This third volume focuses on flank openings while also drawing together many threads from the first two books in a wide-ranging discussion of general opening topics. Particularly in the context of reversed and analogous forms of standard structures, we understand why certain ideas work and others don't, and experience the concept of 'Cross-Pollination' at work in even more varied forms than seen in the first two volumes."

Personally I was a bit disappointed with the first two. I found the introductory chapters (in part 1) good, but limited and I was found his choice of lines a bit mystifying at times. Eg from one opening picking the absolute main lines and saying they are the most important, while with eg the CK we get 2.Nc3 and 3.Nf3 which are almost irrelevant. Still they are good books.

Another rumour: http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1214079417/4#4

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

ECO volume E would be a blast!  Isn't the Catalan officially in "E"?  I'd love to see some of the latest theory in the Catalan, KID, and QID all in one book.

(I have two other versions of ECO "E", and they are among the few opening tomes I still use.)

I'm looking forward to Sokolov's pawn structure book, but I'd also like to see Rublevsky's games collection translated into English.

Did Yermolinksy not do one quite recently on the Classical Sicilian.

LeeRoth, Alexander Chernaiev did a privately-published book on Janovsky. I'm sure he still has copies if you're interested.

Not really what is intended I suppose, but I am still waiting for Spassky to finish his book of best games, for Ivanchuk to write one, for something good on Janowsky and for the Zukertort book to be translated into English.  Oh, and for David Lawson's book on Morphy to be reprinted at a reasonable price.
