All of the actual features of ChessBase 10 are working great for me, but it crashes every once in a while (Vista 64-bit).

Has anybody installed Chessbase 10 Service Pack 1 in Vista 64 bits without problems? (Before, I also tried it in XP 64, both were fresh Windows installations).

I mean when I install the SP1 then I can´t even start the program, it crashes.

I had some mailing about this with Chessbase support but no solution in the end.

Maybe is something related with my laptop, but I think it is very standart (Core 2 Duo T7500, nVidia M8500 256 RAM, 2 GB RAM, also Intel chipset in the motherboard...), or with any driver, but everything else works like a charm but Chessbase 10 SP1.

Really, I don't know what are the benefits of SP1.

A couple of things i have noted about CB10, some of which duplicate comments made above:

- search speeds appear a lot faster.
- the piece graphics are significantly better, now of the same standard as fritz, when previously the quality was noticeably worse.
- on my windows (Vista) I can't remember the last crash (previously was quite regular on CB9)
- my megabase seems to get corrupted less obviously (in CB9 in some of the search made from the board it would only find games up to a given date) - now i think it still gets corrupted as when i replace a game occasionally it seems to overwrite the player names with some others (?! bit weird, and don't understand its implications yet).
- on the player dossier, for some reason the computer calculates a players score  and elo with the Black pieces from White's perspective (e.g. if with a black line i have a 100% score, it would show this as 0% and with a spurious elo)

CB9 used to do that for me until they released what was, I think, the second fix. The same fix solved the nuisance problem of the board always coming up from White's side

I am finally ready and willing to upgrade my dilapidated ChessBase 8 database, but this thread makes me ask a basic question:

If ChessBase 10 has so many flaws, what should I use for a new database??  Is ChessBase 10 still the best product out there despite its flaws, or are there better comprehensive databases available?

I just want to point out that I upgraded to CB10 from CB9 a few months ago and I haven't had a single problem with it.

When I compared the Chessbase 10 Update sections of CBM 127 and 128, I noticed that the files have the same date of 11-Nov-2008. This means to me in the first place that there is no new update available at CBM 128.

For me also the online update never worked. Everytime it says 'Your program is up to date' despite the fact that I own registered copy of CB10 and have a paid playchess account.

I have not yet tried to install the update from CBM 128.

But I faintly recall that installing my present version from CBM 126 was not so easy either. I think I first uninstalled any previous service packs manually. (Using the Windows Control panel -> software -> removing anything called "CB 10 ServicePack 1" or "Chessbase 10 Servicepack"). Then I ran the update installation from DVD successfully. Edit: Better not recommended. Starting the uninstaller program this way may uninstall CB 10 completely.  - Maybe I did a fresh install of ChessBase 10 before adding the service pack available from CBM 126.

Besides, I'm sorry I have to say this about ChessBase 10's quality: The online program update never ever worked for me as expected.

A couple of days ago I received CBM 128. There is an update of CB10 which according to CB people is dated 11.11.2008. This time i made a backup of my CB folder. I started the installation and it copied just one help file... Quite strange... My CB date still remains 29.09.2008 which is from the last stable CB update published in CBM 126.
Would be interested to hear you experience with this...

Hummmm, where u receive it and what is your version date.

It has started occurring whenever I use a PGN file, and I still use a version dating back to September 2nd.

Hummmm, where u receive it and what is your version date. I still continue to use the updated version from CBM 126 and have no problems. Except that from time to time when I try to load an analysis engine the program closes Sad.

I've just started seeing this curious warning message over and over again: 'Unknown message symbol M_NAT_BASQUE'!! What does it mean, and has anyone else seen it? Undecided

I am in contact with CB support and waiting their proposal for solution. Strange but they told that no one has the same problem. Maybe will be a good idea if you also contact them. Btw, do u have the problem with accessing the 127 telechess database? i am trying to open IECG rating list text it my CB crashes.

I only received the CBM yesterday, so unless everyone else received their copy before me, it is hardly surprising no-one has had the time to complain yet! Roll Eyes
Yes, the IECG rating list crashes my CB10 too! Angry
