Kramnik is down for the count. After seeing the ChessVibes clip and upon hearing Kramnik saying he thought he was winning before ...Ne3 in the game yesterday, it looks like that was the moment that broke the camel's back.

I think we can safely now say game, set, and match to Anand. 3-0 down at half time. This is staggeering. Anyone have any idea what Anand's performance rating is?

Keano,

Yes youre right, and to add to the misery there are moves like
Nd6+ on offer....
(if ...Rg8)
But ...Kg8 played and now  Bh6 seems extra strong,
but perhaps Rd3 first?
Anyway Anand has now sufficient time, to think thing through to the end.

Maybe, but fxg7 looks winning enough also - the Bishop comes to h6 at some point and then invade with the rook to f8

Kramnik made his 40th move, but the game is essentially over.
41.Rxg7+,Ke6 42.Ng5+,Ke5 43.f7 wins easily.
I doubt Kramnik would have risked 18...c5?! if he hadnt been behind 2 pts. allready.....

We're at 37...Nxb2 now in the sixth game. To carry the boxing metaphors...The Tiger of Madras has Vlad propped up and is lining up for his final punch.

Two pawns down -- it's looking bleak. I really don't see why he gave the second one, except for the obvious consideration of time trouble.

Well the queens have come off. Kramnik seems a bit better, but has to take care when he opens up the position. After all white again has a pair of bishops and no structural weaknesses yet (16.30 h).
I think this might be drawn again..... Leaving Anand with a comfortable lead at half time.

Another hour (17.30 h CET) and Kramnik seems in trouble again! and is again behind on the clock.
He opened the position, dropping a pawn in the process, and must now defend an inferior endgame. If he loses this one, the match is essentially over.

well, I just glanced at the position and I cant believe Anand is playing this way with h3 and g4. Its either a brilliant concept or very bad, but either way Kramnik is getting what he wants now - a double edged position with Black where he can play to win....

Well Game 6 is on. It looks like Anand has chosen an innocuous sub line of the classical Nimzo Indian. It will be interesting to see if he has found some poison in his preparation.

How about 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.e3 e6 5.Nbd2? I don't think there will be any novelty here, and Kramnik can get interesting positions with chances to win.

Anand would probably answer 4.e3 with either 4...Bf5 or 4... Bg4 rather than 4...e6, but it may still be a reasonable option. Anyway kramnik has two blacks in a row now. Probably will play safe today, but following the rest day will try to make his move playing to win white or black.

I agree that Kramnik was not worse after the opening in game 3 and 5.
But the opening is to blame, in another sense.
It led to positions that Kramnik doesnt seem like, and where doubted his intuition. He spent way to much time on his first few moves when he was out of his home prep, and fell victim to time pressure in complex positions. In game 3 and 5 he was an hour behind on the clock in positions where accurate calculation was still necessary.
Kramnik has always leaned on excellent opening preparation in his matches, and playing black he is well prepared.
In the fourth game he played very well, from a position that suited him.

All in all, Anand's preparation as black has been excellent,
with sufficient back-ups and novelties up till now.
Still 7 games to go, although an early decisions is possible as well.

I think it will be good for the chess world if Anand wins this match,
as it will end any unclarity about who is the world champion.
I didnt think it very gentleman like that Kramnik still claimed to be the world champion of 'classical chess', after Anand became World Champion.

I don't think openings are to blame.
In both of his losses Kramnik was not worse out of the opening, he just didn't play well...
But I am curious if he's busy preparing the Marshall against 1.e4 (since Leko is one of his seconds).

I think Kramnik switching to 1.e4 would be a mistake.  If anything I think he could consider switching to 1.c4 as white; if only for psychological reasons.  I don't think the match is over, but it doesn't look good...even if he makes up the two points, he has to win in rapid chess against probably the best rapid player in the world.

My god..When is the last time Kramnik lost two straight games as white in classical chess? Shocked
