The content of the first Avrukh book looks superb. Well chosen lines. Even the choice of Gelfand for the foreword is good, him being a Catalan player.

The "Europe" tag was used much in the beginning. QCE has been the abbreviation of Quality Chess (Europe).

Is the Schandorff book for black or white?

Before I proceed with my question, I want to take time out and praise once again Mr. Aaagaard for keeping us abreast and happy.

When it comes to chess books, the more the merrier I say.

So what are we to make of this:

http://www.allbookstores.com/book/9781906552183/Lars_Schandorff/Playing_The_Quee...'s_Gambit.html

If you look down it says "Quality Chess of Europe" - can this be? Well, there's no mention of this work on the site, but if true Quality Chess is becoming a queenside openings powerhouse!!

P.S. looks like Markos' book will offer three lines against the KID!

Hi,
so I understand that Grandmaster Repertoire for Black means that 1 volume covers only an answer to 1.e4- not also to 1.d4/1.c4/1.Nf3 etc.? Will a follow up volume cover then a repertoire against 1.d4/1.c4/1.Nf3 etc. or will that be also devided?

Thanks in advance.

wolfsblut

P.S. I´am really looking forward to the first volume .....

First of all I would like to thank Mr. Aagaard for this friendly and trustful conversation we all have on this forum.

I'm a bit dissapointed cause I expected to see first out 1.e4 books, and now I must wait till year 2010!

But nevertheless I'm happy, perhaps I'll start to play 1.d4 just like ANAND did, perhaps I'm going to be the champ too Grin

Regarding White play after 1.e4 e5 I suggest RUY LOPEZ:

A) WORRALL ATTACK   Cool
B) EXCHANGE VARIATION

Thank you for the kind words.

The book was announced at 29.95 euro, but will retail at 24.95. The only losers at this moment are the brits. To stay in business we have had to strip the pound price from our books. It is likely that the retailers will pass on the bill to the customers.

Jacob,

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.
You've been brilliant about letting us know about your upcoming publications.

You give the table of contents,  pdf samples, and even online updates to your books.  Amazing.

Plus you've got Marin writing a book on 1.c4. Smiley

Thanks a lot!
Nietzsche

p.s. - any chance you could get Yusupov to put out a book on the black side of the QGD?
I mean, the man almost beat Karpov in a match using Lasker's Defense!! He must have something to teach us.

Oh, that's great! I just saw the book listed at 30 Euro, so I was a little worried.

If you want to buy books by Quality Chess in the US, you should know that we cooperate with Classical Games in Florida. When we have enough new titles out, we ship them there with UPS so they arrive in the US about 6-8 weeks before other shops get them. Actually, they had the Berlin Wall before either of their two UK branches had them. And the book is set at $ 29.95, so I don't see a need to part with another 20 bucks...

Volume 2 will conclude Avrukh's series. Volume 3 is Marin on the English. We are negotiating with a well-known grandmaster about volume 4 and hope to sign a contract in Dresden.

I will personally dedicate 2009 to washing nappies and working on 1.e4. At this point in time no one knows what to do against 1...e5, and the King's Gambit is already taken...

Btw, I guess the second volume will be 1.d4 Nf6 (and possibly other things such as the dutch), correct? And I assume this also will cover main lines (i.e. 2.c4)...

Yes, see :

Well that TOC certainly refutes my comment earlier that Davies (http://www.everymanchess.com/display.php?id=489) would have more space for the Catalan than Avrukh. The Catalan section here is a full-length repertoire book in itself, and by a long-time Super-GM!

And it will be interesting to add at this section ,  one of the next Khalifman books on Kramnik repertoire with the catalan :

"Khalifman notes about the concept of the Second edition of the series “Opening for White according to Kramnik”:

The first edition of the “Opening for White according Kramnik” was realised in 2000-2004. In 2006 started a FULL renovation of the series. My analysis and recommendations significantly differ from the first edition in a number of variations. However, the bare bones of the series remained practically the same as a whole. There will be only one change of front – while the fifth volume of the first edition examined the Classical queen's gambit, the new edition will cover the Catalan. I have also altered the structure of openings in volume 2. In contrast to the first edition, I dare to advocate to meet 2...e6 by 3.g3. Is this move objectively better than 3.Nc3, we can argue about that forever. What is clear is that White does not wish to enter classical Queen's Gambit, the Ragozin Defence or the Vienna variation, since he must be well prepared to do that after 3.Nc3 d5. Instead, he invites his opponent to the ground of the Catalan Opening (3.g3 d5 4.d4), which has brought to Vladimir Kramnik numerous brilliant victories in the recent tournaments. My own personal bias and long-formed opinion that the Catalan suits best Kramnik's playing style could have made me choose this opening even for the first edition. Still I had to reckon back then with the fact that Kramnik played the Catalan very rarely in those years. Lately the situation has considerably changed. Today the ex-world champion is the leading protagonist of this opening. We can witness it at every tournament with his participation. That called for the above-mentioned restructuring of the second edition of the series. Chaess Stars has published so far volumes 1a and 1b (to replace the old volume 1), and volume 2 (replacing the old volume 2). In 2009 volumes 3a and 3b (replacing the old volume 3) are bound to appear. At the same time I keep on working on the new volumes 4 and 5.
