Well I've been working from the book, on and off, for quite some time now. It's been a tough slog - the QGA chapter alone has taken me more than a month to get through and still I don't think I have much of a feel for the lines. I've been finding Schandorff's repertoire book a much easier read actually, at least the chapter on the QGD Exchange.

Has anyone worked through this book - if yes, how long did it take?

The older, the better - over 2200 and still rising.

So he is recommending 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.e3 e6 5.b3, wow. Maybe White transposes to a sideline of anti-Meran? But does not that betray the concept of the book?

Avrukh does not recommend g3 against the Semi-Slav!!
Cool

Since that isn't so good, he offers e3 and (wait for it...)

b3!

Smiley

I dont mean to imply that his choice is bad, just funny.  I agree completely with Markovich's comment elsewhere that Avrukh's tastes run differently than mine.  This is a bit too quiet for my taste.

This closed English way of playing also gives Black quite a bit more freedom of choice than some of the more forcing and theoretical lines.  Of course, with forcing theoretical lines also come the possibilities for the line to be analysed to death.  So his choice for a repertoire weapon definitely makes sense. It's just not what I'd order from the menu.

Sorry, this might have been already answered here. What does Avrukh recommend against the semi-slav? From table of contents one sees that he uses the following move order: 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.e3 4.e6.

PS: Also what is his recommendation against Chebanenko slav?

Will a sample of GM Repertoire 2 be available online as with GM Rep 1? I hope that Aagaard repeats this with GMRep2 as the online sample played a major role in convincing me to buy the previous book in the series.

If anyone has access to or knows the contents page, posting it here would be appreciated.

Missing Line in Catalan

Hello while working on one of my corr games I realised that Boris Avrukh missed out an interesting line in his book in the Catalan.
In the position after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 4.g4 dc4 5.Bg2 Be7 6.0-0 0-0 7.Qc2 Nc6 8.Qxc4 he simply does not cover the line 8...Qd5 which seems to me quite an interesting one.
Any ides/proposals how WHite can cope with this line ?!

Thanks in advance

I mailed Jacob Aagaard to ask when he was planning to release it and he said september, so I think that's final, but you never know...

I've been looking at Avrukh's Catalan coverage from the dak side recently - trying to find a line I'm comfortable with against the Catalan.

What I absolutely want to avoid is simple, technical positions where Black tries to defend and draw. I want somewhat unbalanced positions where both sides have to take care and there is still scope for tactics to appear. This is a stylistic choice, and I might accept being theoretically worse to achieve it.

So far I'm considering the accepted with 4...dxc4 and 5...Nc6 (which I have played before, however Avrukh's main line looks to technical for my taste), 4...dxc4 and 5...a6 6.0-0 b5, and 4...Bd4+ 5.Bd2 Be7 (following the main line with either 9...Ba6 or 9...Bb7).

Any opinions or suggestions welcome!

4...Bb4+ 5. Bd2 Be7 with ...Ba6 is the way to go, in my opinion.

It will actually transpose to a position from the 4. g3 Ba6 5. Qc2 Bb4+ 6. Bd2 Be7 QID in which black has been doing fine. The positions are very rich as well.

Got it together with Scharndorf's book and I am rather pleased with them both.
I must say that the Catalan is growing on me now that I started going through this book. I like the pressure you get with that g2 bishop. Still there is a lot of nuances and strange concepts (like locking in you bishop at a5). However it is way more active than I had assumed and in my first game with it, it all went smoothly even though Avrukh claims I could have played better in the opening Grin

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but they were mentioned earlier in this thread and were along the lines of the Fianchetto KID, Fianchetto Grunfeld, Fianchetto Benoni, 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3 and Black's alternatives to 3...d5, the main line Dutch, etc. I'm not sure what Avrukh recommends against the Benko, Budapest, Modern or Old Indian, though.
