Yes, that's it. The Knights have a hard time stopping the pawns Queening, the trick is that they don't need to  Smiley

Alternatively, 3...Kg1 4.Nd2 and now that White's pawn is on h4, Black can't reach it. 3.Kf7? Kg1! looks like a draw, though.

1...g3 2.Nhg4 I think all the pawns are going to get caught, and White can push his h-pawn down to victory.

Is my answer correct?

No.

In this line Black Queens and plays Kg2. Either the h pawn goes, or the g pawn Queens. But now you start to see what a hard time the 2 Knights have vs.  2 connected passed pawns, unlike the slick Rook  Cool

I have no idea at all how to solve Gunter's puzzle Sad. I tried both Bc2 cxd3 Bxd3 Rd7 and d4+ Bxd4 B-anywhere Rd7. I suspect it has something to do with the second line and with the placement of the bishop, but I can't seem to get anything so far Sad

As for JEH's first puzzle, I did it before, so I shall not attempt to solve it XD.

As for the 2 knight's puzzle by JEH, I think that White should play

1.Ne3

1...Kxh2 2.gxh4 and wins

1...gxh3 2.Nef1. Then the white king marches to h3 when the black king is on h1, then Ng3 and Nf3 mate.

1...g3 2.Nhg4 I think all the pawns are going to get caught, and White can push his h-pawn down to victory.

Is my answer correct? Also, can I have a clue for Gunter's puzzle? Smiley

1.Re4 - this is really not hard to see and by no means a study.

The older, the better - over 2200 and still rising.

This superb study is by the great composer Yochanan Afek. He is also a strong tournament player (IM)!

White to play and draw
Dont think to artifical at the beginning, just consider natural and  logical moves (the same you would play in a  real game) to reach the critical position of the study.

After 1.Nh7    f6!
2.Nxf6   Black has the already mentioned stalematedefense Kf8
       3.Rd8    Kg7
       4.Rd7    Kh8!

Thats one idea of the study; if you read carefully all posts, the solution becomes clear!

Argh, my line is wrong Sad

Sorry, I don't get what is wrong with your line. After 1.Nh7 f6, doesn't 2.Nxf6 win easily?
