It's quite simple.

1 Find Calories Kasparov (or player like him) burns in a classical session of chess. Then:

Calories*4200/seconds [7 hours=25,200] = X Joules per second = X Watts

2 Normal wattage of the most energy efficient 2850 computer?

Compare the 2.

Blistering stuff.
Hope you are not like this at work. The lunchtime canteen can be a lonely place.

What is GK doing?
Sleeping? Running a marathon? Eating a Hawaiian pizza? Thinking up silly questions?

Do you know The Golden Condor from Cities of Gold cartoon btw? A wealthy relative?

I meant at the board, not in a lifetime.

Please forgive me - I couldnt resist. At the board its easy - Garry will performe, lets say between 2600 and 2851 Elo (it could even happen he makes a patzer 1200 move like Kramnik missing mate in 1), the comp always has 2851.

I am not sure you meant it this way - but you cant say the answer was not more serious.

Of course Garry - a comp may "live" for about 2 or 3 years, a human being for about 70 to 80 years. Its clear that human Garry will consume a lot more energy as long he is in function  Wink

If you compared Garry Kasparov with the most efficient computer running at 2851 ELO, who would use the more energy?
