Wonder if the list of illegal drugs is identical to the one used in other more physical sports...

Is this the first time doping tests have been taken in chess tournaments?

I think chess never will be an olympic sport. If they still want to include chess in the olymics they have no choice. Doping controls are required. They probably should give him a warning. To ban him would be way off.

Coffee is a big help.

So is sugar.

What absolute F__king stupidity.

I like smoking reefers and will continue to do so, regardless.

"Rules are rules" is one of the Top Ten Stupid Sayings that say nothing along with "we'll agree to disagree" and "hot-water heater."  Stupid rule, strike it down, kudos to Ivanchuk and hopefully more people grow some reproductive organs large enough to follow in his footsteps.

Or, perhaps jockstrap.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

Ivanchuk didn't show up for the doping control after his last game in the olympiad at Dresden. Fide President Ilyumshinov stated Ivanchuk could face a two-year ban, and also that all his games at the Olympiad would be annulled.
What do you think of this?
On the one hand doping control in chess is absurd, on the other hand rules are rules. Ivanchuk should be sanctionend but not severly in my opinion.

Doping control in chess is indeed absurd.  On the one hand, I understand that there are no drugs proven significantly to enhance one's chess powers.  On the other, it would not bother me in the slightest if there were, and players used them.  If someone can show that drinking coffee benefits one's chess play, what the frig is the problem with anyone's drinking some?  There really is a crazy moralism about drug-taking these days.  Why should I care if some citizen wants to dope up on steriods or, for that matter, on cocaine?  And yes, I would support a significant relaxation of doping restrictions in other sports as well.

Rules are rules, but this one should be overturned.
