Thanks very much. I never noticed the similarity (a bit ignorant still in opening matters). So I will check out what Black does in this Nimzo line.

My first observation is that Black is a tempo up on a line of the 4. Qc2 Nimzo (due to having played ...Bxc5-e7 instead of ...Bb4xc5-e7).  In the diagrammed position with e3 added, ...dc Bxc4 a6 is supposed to lead to equality.

Hello:

Thanks.

Rest of game was [9...d4 10.0–0–0? dxc3 11.Rxd8 cxb2+ 12.Kxb2 Rxd8 13.e3 e5 14.h3 Be6 15.Ng5 Bd7 16.Bd3 h6 17.Ne4 Rac8 18.g4 Be6 19.Ng3 Bxb4 20.Bf5 and resigns. 0–1]

Instead of 10.0-0-0 he meant to play Rd1 but made a mistake and changed his mind. I get too much for the Q but of course I made it hard for myself. Still a first time for me to end with an imbalance of 3 pieces for Q+P.

If he plays 10.Rd1 he seems just fine out of the opening also.

d4 looks like good plan in current position to me, but also move like Bd7 could be considered?

9. ...d4 10.Rd1 e5 11. e3 Qb6 4.c5 Bxc5! looks good for black, to me, or certainly what I would play in this position  Smiley

In the opening stages I think 3. ...Nf6 is another choice to change the situation at an earlier stage if you do not like this position for Black, but I think Black is just fine in the position you posted.

What happened in game that you played 9. ...d4  ?

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

Help with a Position

Hello All:

As Black I have reached this position twice against the same opponent. He develops his queenside first as you can see; takes my c5-P but does not give me an Isolani; and plays 3.a3 and later plays b4 to drive back my position.
[1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.a3 c5 4.dxc5 Bxc5 5.Nc3 Nf6 6.Nf3 Nc6 7.b4 Be7 8.Bb2 0–0 9.Qc2]

* * * * * * * *

* * * * * * * *

It doesn't seem right that he just ignores his kingside. Yet I am not sure what to do here.

This time I played 9...d4 with idea 10...e5 and this allows my light B to develop. In the previous game I played 9...a6 with idea of playing 10...Qc7.

It seems to me I am stuck for space to get my pieces out and yet he shouldn't be able to get away with ignoring his kingside development?? Any help appreciated.
