When it comes to writing a book, it's still up to the author to decide about a proper organization of the material. What I want to express: It's still up to the author of the chess book to decide, when and where he starts given letters/number to a branch or a line like "C622)". If each and every branch (or sideline or remarks) gets a new numbering, we would end up with unreadable thinks like "C6222aa345cyz)" around move 12. And I'm sure no one wants to see this. I've checked recent books (e.g. Cox, Avrukh). The authors were very hesitant to overdo in this aspect. For sure, Avrukh already goes to the extremes with classifications like "B223322)" (see p.151). But I'm sure, an automatic tool would make it even worse here ... Regards, papageno.

	Thank you very much for you Information. I have tested the Old notation format but, at the end, it is the same than actual. I can't belive this tool couldn't be more flexible. It does help somewhat with a repertoire DB where the games have grown rather fat. There is also a "fold" function that lets you compress the line so that only main line moves are shown and all variations are "folded" so as to be less cumbersome when manuevering through the game. Perfect for those lines that start looking like Luciano Pavarotti.

	I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

	Unfortunately there is no such functionality. But you can avoid this by entering a text before the first move in each variation and introduce your own numbering system.

	Hi people, I would like to know how can I control the numbers of the variations in chessbase. Is there somewhere a setup about it? Even more, I would like to know if i can force to put the "A)" "A1)" and so on by my own. I mean not automatic, but not just plain text. Thx
