My favorite rock albums:

Leonard Cohen: Various Positions, I'm Your Man, The Future
Queen: The Works, Made in Heaven etc. etc.
Supertramp: Breakfast in America
Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms, On Every Street
Billy Joel: The Stranger, 52nd Street, An Innocent Man
Meat Loaf: Bat Out of Hell
Bruce Springsteen: Born to Run
Eagles: Their Greatest Hits 1971-75
Bon Jovi: Keep the Faith

I love the Beatles too, but my favorite songs are scattered over all the albums. This must be a depressingly mainstream rock taste to some, but I'm supposed to be too young for most of this Smiley

I struggle to find contemporary rock that I really like (tips welcome!), but some of my recent favorites are:

The Jayhawks: Rainy Day Music
The Killers: Sam's Town, Day and Age

Their best effort.

Hard to find, but very worthwhile if you enjoy The Byrds.

I do.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

You can digitize your vinyl collection!  You will need:

> Sony Sound Forge (or other similar software).
> Cables

Just record the analog tracks onto the PC.  Open them in iTunes (or whatever choosen ap).

If you get good with Sound Forge, you can "clean them up" as well.

The crux will be the finding the time you need to do it all!!   Cry

Because the sound signal is compromised because compression and formatting, the iPod sound quality will be as good as if you ripped from CD source.

It will never replace the vinyl analog signal coming through some warm MacIntosh tubes, but you can listen to your Dion and the Belmonts collection at the local club's weekly G/30.

You can do:

Movie Soundtracks from VHS.
8 Tracks
Cassettes
etc.

Vinyl is absolutely the best; no doubt about that.  For me the "fidelity" registers on a purely emotional scale.  I can't hear fidelity in music on an intellectual level, but I can hear its feeling, and vinyl conveys so much more.  I'm planning to expand my collection.  You can get a very decent turntable for about $300.  Recently I bought "A Whiter Shade of Pale" on vinyl just to get the title track.  It's brilliant.  The problem is, the rest of the record is pure crap.  But I think I may have said that here before.

Among my favorite records is the Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man,"
which is not an old release but a recent cut.

@Ostap:  I also like Pink Floyd.  Do you know The Violent Femmes?

Bob Dylan: Essential Bob Dylan Vol II

Yeah, I have everything Dylan on vinyl.  The problem is, there's no way to get it onto the Ipod, not with the equipment I have, anyway.

I take it your not Toby Keith fan, then?  Heh, heh.  But we stray from rock.

I agree about the Moody Blues.  I had an Air Force roommate who introduced me to them, back in the day.  I should get that album, and 'Nights in White Satin.'

I think the Shocking Blue has come up here before.  That's another group I like.  I'll be you can get their stuff at the Ipod store; I'll see.  I have 'Venus' in vinyl.

Dire Straits. Telegraph Road, Down to the water line, etc. ..  I`m always coming back for them.

My sons bought me an Ipod for my last birthday, so I will avail myself of the chance to buy some songs by these artists at the Ipod store, just to see if I like them.  I'll start with the two you recommend.

Excellent stuff.

Did you know David Lynch is a tremendous Orbison fan?

Traveling Wilburys

Well its allright....at the end of the line.

This is one of my favourite guitar pieces - easy to play, but impressive due to the introduction to the song.

And how about the "Zombies"  Wink

I know we've talked about this before, but why not again?

I am just sitting here listening to Roy Orbison's album, "A Black and White Night," and I wonder if others here like Orbison's music as much as I do.  Some other rock artists that I really like are Buddy Holly, the Doors and the Pogues.  Anybody ever hear of the Mavericks?  That's another group that I like.  Their lyrics aren't too great, but their songs are fantastic anyway.  One of my favorite albums is the first "Traveling Wilburys."
