Also loved the Dominguez-Karjakin game (some crazy Najdorf stuff, featuring active defence by the Black King). For those interested it is posted on Chessbase with analysis by Shipov.

btw these 2 players rock!

Very nice win by Karjakin, claiming first spot. Carlsen screwed up his endgame (shich I think he has done quite a lot), while the others decided to have the day off.
Decent showing by the Dutchies, though if everyone is beating up on Morozevich they should do so as well...

And that kid in group C also performed remarkebly and it seems we can soon count him as Dutch.

Morozevich is playing a very bad tourney, he often has a losing position after 20 moves already! Yesterday against the player from cuba and today against movsesian ... Also Howell does not seem to play like a 2600 in the C-Tourney ... I'm very curious on the play of Reindermann, he plays the Leningrad Dutch, and so far noone really managed to get a winning position from the opening against him, this only intensifies my belief that the mainline with d4 is not the best try against it. I also think we get to see a hint on what carlsen is capable of, he plays very complicated and creative moves (game today against karjakin or before against radjabov), I don't think anyone else on the current top level could play like him.

I'm bewildered at how Radjabov played into an improvement over one of his own games without being prepared for it. Ftacnik have h4 in 2003, and Radjabov was just a little too care-free in playing this line again without knowing about inprovements that have been suggested for white.

Prolly because he had prepared revenge for this:

Great days for Oranje!!

Yusupov once said that “The problem with the Dutch Defence is that later in many positions the best move would be ...f5-f7” but he is surely wrong.

So Smeets beat Chucky Cool

a very suprising and lucky upset. It was interesting to watch Smeets in the conference unsure why he was there giving it at all lol. His words "I was worse the whole game and was lucky to get a win on time!"

He doesnt lose many "lost" games. He has some sort of nose to make the win as difficult as possible. He did the same yesterday.

Anyway for the fans of old-fashioned gambit openings, apparently move 11 by Adams is not so good:
[Event "Corus Chess 2009"]
[Site "Wijk aan Zee"]
[Date "2009/1/18"]
[Round "2"]
[White "Movsesian"]
[Black "Adams"]
[Result "1-0"]

The losers of yesterday Chucky and Moro rebounded today.
So everything is open again. Stellwagen played a carefull draw against Carlssen (note his trappy Rd7! in reply to ...Bxb2. Of course Carlssen was not to be fooled and choose Bf6 instead of getting mated after taking the rook on a1).

nowadays there are so many "major events" ...
I consider every tournament with 50 % of the players 2600+ major ...
almost every week you can watch some chess games being played by super GM's ... for chess lovers there has never been a greater time when now, and bethanks to the internet all the games are avaible to you in about 1 second ... and how can you call a tournament with players like carlsen, radjabov, ivanchuk or morozevich not major ... also I do not consider 2 of the players you mentionend, Kramnik and Anand, to be able to uphold their elite level against the new generation any longer
