I don't think it is a breach of security - as far as I can see the only members who have received this are those who haven't hidden their email address, thus leaving it open for any bot to grab.

There is a breach in the wall.  This means that the servers you are using may have been corrupted and there is a bot program pulling up everyone's email.

Webmaster needs to contact people hosting the site because this is not a good sign. It may affect more than just this site and the people using it.

It does not pose an immediate threat to users here, unless they engage the sender, and then all bets are off.  The biggest threat is to the hosting servers, and it appears they have already been compromised.

Maliciously or otherwise, there is a breach of web security behind this.

I'm not sure it's that bad, DrKodos. Yet.

All that DomainKeys verification does is validate the domain (yahoo.co.th) - not the sender (edinagood1@yahoo.co.th - this is a INVALID email address).

It's relatively easy to find possible email addresses for people. Most spammers will try to fool the recipient by adding a "I got your email from ..." to allay suspicion.

Nevertheless, I'd certainly check with the hosting provider.

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas

Alas, nothing about chess in the mail. just someone claiming to want to get her inheritance money out of Ivory Coast.

Could I get in on this inheritance deal?  I have some money I could send her.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

That's impressive, how do they do that? In your options is your email hidden? Undecided

I just got a 419 scam email whose subject line was "Message from Chesspub forum member".  (Not a forum private message, an actual email to the address in my profile.) I think the scammers are getting desperate.

The email text also says "I got your contact address from Chesspub Forums board Memberlist", which is a pretty unusual level of personalization for one of these.

Alas, nothing about chess in the mail. just someone claiming to want to get her inheritance money out of Ivory Coast.

Anybody else get one yet?
