I'd be surprised if that "interesting mess" isn't clearly better for White.

Wow, interesting idea. Certainly falls into the dangeous weapons category for surprise value.

Not a novelty, I found a whole 1 game in Megabase, with Black plumping for 5. ...e3

Not quite sure I agree with doms assessment as a piece is a piece, and after 7. Qxc2 Qxf6 White can grab another pawn, and after 7. ...gf it's an interesting mess, so time to insert infinity symbol

Probably Black should just meet g4 by carrying on developing pieces, Be7, Nc6 and White might regret the excentricity.

Those who want to go by my perverse footsteps play such pawn structure with fuzzy atypical still strategic orientations

At current time, I have no database and no chessboard to analyze position...but blind analysis makes me wonder if straight tactical line is not good here.
For example, take three pawns for knight with 4.g4 dxe4 5.g5 exd3 6.gxf6 dxc2 and material advantage is for Black (N vs 3P) and same for positional advantage (pawn structure is a wreck for White).

The "Grob" or "Bayonet attack" move g4 is effective in some lines of Sicilian (I don't remember well name..I only remember Keres games with this attack) and Queen Gambit (Bayonet Attack popularized by Shirov among many)..but often it's not effective, for example the g4 move in Grunfeld  (I played one game as Black vs young player long time ago,Lepan Marvin-Laurain D,Naujac ??)

Never seen, never heard - but I am sure some of the weird chessis here (psst no names Grin) have a lot of surreal suggestions.

My first thought: What happens if Black simply plays 4...h6?

Recently I played a game against a usually very creative opponent. Again he didn't fail me.

The game went 1. e4 e6 2. d3 d5 3. Nd2 Nf6 and now he surprised me with 4. g4. It continued 4....de4 5. g5 (after de4 I had planned e5) e3 (maybe not so good, the f-file is opened for white and there are no threats to be seen along the e1-h4 diagonal in the near future) 6. fe3 Nd5 7. Ndf3 (covering e3 and g5) c5 8. e4 Ne7 9.  Be3 Nec6 10. Qd2 and it took me a lot of moves to entangle. White must be better here because of his advantage in development, I think.

Anyone know this variation?
