Suggest those interested look at Grischuk v Anand - it's annotated on chessbase

And that would be :

[Event "USA-chT Amateur East"]
[Site "Parsippany"]
[Date "2005.03.20"]
[Round "4"]
[White "Kedyk, Dmitry"]
[Black "Chiong, Luiz"]
[Result "1-0"]
[ECO "B97"]
[WhiteElo "2289"]
[BlackElo "2381"]
[PlyCount "61"]
[EventDate "2005.03.19"]
[EventType "team"]
[EventRounds "6"]
[EventCountry "USA"]
[Source "ChessBase"]
[SourceDate "2005.05.10"]

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4 Qb6 8. Qd2
Qxb2 9. Rb1 Qa3 10. f5 Nc6 11. fxe6 fxe6 12. Nxc6 bxc6 13. e5 dxe5 14. Bxf6
gxf6 15. Ne4 Be7 16. Be2 h5 17. Rf1 f5 18. Rf3 Qa4 19. Nd6+ Bxd6 20. Qxd6 Qa5+
21. Kf1 Ra7 22. Rb8 Kf7 23. Rxc8 Rxc8 24. Bc4 Re8 25. Bxe6+ Rxe6 26. Rxf5+ Kg7
27. Qxe6 Qb5+ 28. Kf2 Qc5+ 29. Kg3 Qe7 30. Qxe5+ Qxe5+ 31. Rxe5 1-0

Let's keep up the team work!

I dont understand the resignation. It should be drawable.

Btw I was thinking, maybe 20..Qa5+ is a mistake and something like 20..Ra7 or maybe even 20..Rh7 is preferable. With the queen on a4 the bishop can't come to c4 so that this variation is impossible and white may have to go 20..Ra7 21Rfb3 Qc7 and then what. White definately has the initiative, but I think black can hold this.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

15...Qa2 is a forced draw. And anyway the analysis are not all Fritz but real games played by humans. Smiley

Fritz seems to give credit.

And silicone is so unreliable.

My point now being : No big shoes on this one. At least in my DB. They prefer the calm (?!) 15....Qxa2.

Was fun and that close it for me.

18...Qa2 is correct and now 19 Rfb3 Qa4! 20 Nd6 Bd6 21 Qd6 Ra7! with an unclear position when black shoud hold.

I think 22..Kf7 is better, though 23.Rxc8 Rxc8 24.Bc4 is dangerous.

[Black "Livshits, Ron"]
[Result "1-0"]

[WhiteElo "2214"]
[BlackElo "2355"]
[PlyCount "45"]
[EventDate "2006.08.18"]
[EventType "swiss"]
[EventRounds "9"]
[EventCountry "CAN"]
[Source "Mark Crowther"]
[SourceDate "2006.08.28"]

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4 Qb6 8. Qd2

I think black's best is to go 17..f5, cover d8 with the queen and move the rook to the 2nd rank eg
17.Rf1 f5 18.Rf3 Qa4 19.Nd6+ Bxd6 20.Qxd6 Qa5+ 21.Kf1 Ra7

Hello,

I just started to examine various PP games. And, 1 move, the 17th by white is not cover by Nunn's Najdorf 6.Bg5 book.
So : 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Bg5 e6 7.f4 Qb6 8.Qd2 Qxb2 9.Rb1 Qa3 10.f5 (Yes, this var.) Nc6 11.fxe6 fxe6 12.Nxc6 bxc6 13.e5 dxe5 14.Bxf6 gxf6 15.Ne4 Be7 (Probably you will tell me more reliable is 15...Qxa2, indeed, GM Kasparov does in his book of the two K's!)16.Be2 h5 17.Rf1 (! My punctuation. The main line being 17.Rb3 Qa4 18.c4)
So, can you share decent knowledge about this idea? Or giving me hints so to pursue my quest and/or do I miss a crucial game?
In the position after 17.Rf1, my database shows many white's scalps. The idea is simple : a) Rf3 (attacking the queen), b) Rf-b3 (putting the black queen in a corner and doubling), c) Nd6+ and after Qxd6 the control of the b file permits an invasion, d) check, check and mate, further, since the white king still is on e1 no check with tempo on square 'c5' eventually can save black. Black has problems.

Thank you,
