I have a custom-made mandolin, made by the Dublin luthier, Joe Foley.  It's a fine instrument, though it's been some time since I last had time to pick it up.

Damien Dempsey has been producing some very strong Irish folk recordings...

I'm learning various fiddle styles currently (on cello).  I met Jerry Holland from Cape Breton, and I am friends with Scottish Fiddle master Alasdair Fraser and cellist Natalie Haas.  Also fiddlers Hanneke Cassel and Brittney Haas are friends of mine whom I highly recommend.  Bluegrass/Newgrass group Crooked Still is awesome as well!

Oh no!  I went to investigate, and now "La ville que j'ai tant aimée" keeps playing in my head ...

I only like folk music when interpreted by Led Zeppelin (Tangerine, Bron-y-aur Stomp), Uriah Heep (Lady in Black, Tales, Circus), Tsjajkovsky (eg the Ukrainian theme of the 1812 Overture) or Mussorgsky (Pictures at an Exhibition, Sorotsjinsky Fair). And the country song I like best is Deep Purple's Anyone's Daughter. Then again, Dutch folk music belongs to the most boring ever anywhere.

I am a man of constant sorrow.

I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

I am just listening to Tri Yann's "La Ville Que J'ai Tant Aimee."  Beautiful stuff.  Along with Breton stuff I have big soft spot for Quebecois and Cajun folk music.

I'm big on Celtic, particularly, everything by The Boys of the Lough.  I also like Old Timey stuff, e.g., the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the Smithsonian Anthology of American Folk Music.

I have a CD of American sea chanteys that's lots of fun to listen to.
