tbh, you can't expect someone to sit for 13 hours on the board for one single chessgame, I myself would not have participated.

Apparently the first eight moves took 6 hours (http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5241)

Personally I think the report is a bit big on the numbers. 6 hours for the first 8 moves and then 8 for the rest? That means that most games didnt reach 20, which I doubt (or they must have been facing Micawber's 1.e4) in particular as the time per move will go up (thinking time will go up, due to position and tiredness, plus extra walking distance).
And 500 meters for 360 boards?

Still I think the Dutchies have a better claim and it is more fun. Can you imagine having to play 6 hours for your first 8 moves (and you will have to move immediately when he arrives)?

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

I had the chance to look it up now. Böhm played 12 opponents at one time, the whole exhibition lasted 25 hours 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Which makes 2.68 minutes/game.

Of course factors like time spent per move etc; need to be taken in account, but if you never have to skip boards on which there is no game being played you certainly save some effort.

Maybe the record attempt was arranged in this way in order to make the exhibition more convenient for the other participants who wouldn't have to wait 20+ minutes for a move in the beginning.

Ok thx, so there was a difference after all.
But does it influence the walking distance?
It seems to me that the actual hours you play and the average length of the games and the average time standing still at a board are of great influence as well.
Suppose I agree to play a thousend opponents and everyone is so impressed that he resigns after I play 1.e4! Evidently I wont have to walk that far, unless the organizer have made the distance between any two players 1 km Wink

For instance Rosendaal played 30 hours against 720 players, so he must have walked a large distance as well. Roll Eyes
And if a large number of games has ended, you can take a short-cut, depend on the way the playing arena is layed out, and the participants are distributed.
Does anybody know how long Bohm had to play to achieve his record?

Georgiev 14,5 hours 360 games=  2,4 min per game.
Rosendaal 30 hours 730 games =  2,5 min per game.

Iirc, Böhm's record was achieved on a much smaller number of boards. As soon as a game finished, the player on that board was replaced by another one until 560 games had been played.

Georgiev played on 360 boards at the same time which takes a lot more time because of the walking distances.

Giorgiev has set a new record simul chess:
360 games 88%

Now I am a little confused:
In 1988 IM Hans Böhm played 560 games, 94%
His record was published in the Guiness book of records.
In 1998 B.van Rosmalen played 730 games (??%), apparently playing
30 hours!

Can anybody tell me in what respect Giorgiev's record differs?
