There's a chess venue in North London near Euston ... I think Middlesex County side plays there ... that has (or had) a cat that wanders around as if s/he owns the place.

It's a room above a pub.  The cat was there several times when I visited but I haven't been there for a year or two.

I have seen several photos of chess-playing monkeys at Gibraltar, in New In Chess Magazines and on ChessBase. Their favourite opening is the Monkey's Bum (1.e4 g6 2.Bc4 Bg7 3.Qf3 e6 4.d4). The name allegedly comes from someone who, when confronted with this move, said 'If it works, then I'm a monkey's bum!'.

No allegedly ... that's what happened.  Former members of Streatham & Brixton Chess Club I believe.

ok that settles it: I'm wearing a gorilla suit to my next tournament, and I'll make sure I smell of strong cologne too.

I think there's a monkey that comes to my chessboard, although it only seems to appear when I'm not at the table. When I play through my games, there always seem to be some of my moves that could only have been played by a monkey  Undecided

Those who want to go by my perverse footsteps play such pawn structure with fuzzy atypical still strategic orientations

I read about Alekhine having a cat sitting around his neck or on his shoulder during a game and I was wondering if anyone ever brought a pet to their game...like a parrot or a ferret or their worm collection or something crazy.
