Not sure about Nezhmetdinov.  Certainly he was one of the brightest lights, but what about Igor Ivanov, who boasted draws and victories over Kasparov and Karpov?  He would lose silly games, but that was because he would play every week against anybody.

Ivanov certainly ranks as one of the world's best non-GMs.

The strongest player, not reaching the GM title, was Rashid Nezhmetdinov.

Somebody called him "the worlds strongest amateur" if I remember right.

The worlds strongest amateur ever of course is Max Euwe.

The strongest well singing GM must be Smyslov. I remember vaguely reading that Smyslov and Taimanov (piano) have recorded some classical songs. Does anybody know more about this?

The strongest alcohol addict is Alekhine.

Who is the GM with the lowest average ELO? Westerinen?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Impressive is the World's oldest Grandmaster (at the moment):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andor_Lilienthal

Perhaps the first Grandmaster to reach 100 years - this may yield him 100 additional elo points according to Fide-rule 23.4! On the other hand - at some card games you fall back to zero when reach the number 99 at counting - hmm.... Wink

This may be the truth, since Huebner always had an academic life besides chess, despite I don´t know whether he always had a job at an university. But there seem to be lots of things not known about Huebner...

Today I read a description of a book from GM Robert Hübner:

Robert Hübner probably is the world's most modest chess grandmaster.

Grin - Great advertisment!

What world record holders among the grandmasters do you see?

Is there a most expierenced, smallest, longest, funniest, or whatever Grandmaster?

Let's collect them.... Wink
