In no particular order:

Larsen's Best Games
Perfect Your Chess
Grandmaster Chess Move by Move
Tal's Best Games
Fire on Board

- No opening Manuals included, though if I had to it would change the list.  Grin

1. Dvoretsky/Yusupov: Positional Play
2. Silman: How To Ressess Your Chess
3. LB Hansen: Secrets of Chess Endgame Strategy
4. Bronznik/Terekhin: Techniken des Positionsspiels im Schach
5. Aagaard: Attacking Manual 1

This is my list today; If you asked me tomorrow, it could be five different books! There are just too many to choose from. Seems like today I'm into positional play and not so much into openings, game collections, or tactics...

1) Chess Informants 1-103
2) Forcing Chess Moves
3) Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual
4) Grandmaster Repertoire 1.d4: Volume One
5) Van Perlo's Endgame Tactics

I'm not sure if the Chess Informants count as one book or more than one, but since all Informants are available as one, I would argue that all issues are the equivalent of one item.

I could have included the New In Chess Yearbooks as well, although since the Yearbooks are not available all as one item (ie they are all separate, unless the Informants on the CD), this would be stretching the definition of a singular 'book' too far.

Edit: I changed my mind for no.5, from 'The Sveshnikov Reloaded' to 'Van Perlo's Endgame Tactics'. Thanks to Willempie for reminding me of the latter.

#1) My System/Chess Praxis/Blockade - Aaron Nimzowitsch
#2) Opening for White According to Kramnik (Series) - Alexander Khalifman
#3) Play the French (1st, 2nd, 3rd Editions) - John Watson
#4) Practical Chess Endings - Paul Keres
#5) Play the Nimzo-Indian Defense - Svetozar Gligoric

This amounts to more than 5, but it has a lot to do with how it is structured in my mind.

The books are ranked in terms of how much I got out of them, although admittedly I am missing book 4 of the Khalifman series.

I'll start with my best 5:

Bronstein: Zurich International 1953
Fischer: My 60 Memorable Games
Soltis: Soviet Chess 1917-1991
Tal: My Life & Games
Burgess et al: The Mammoth Book of the World's Greatest Chess Games

P.S. I really want to include the Kasparov: My Great Predecessors series but since it more than one book...  What do you think?

Bronstein's, Tal's and Fischer's book is already in my top 5.  my other two favorite books are:  Bronstein's Sorcerer's apprentice and Tal's Tal-Botvinek championship book.
