Question: IMHO Karsten Mueller is very good at chess

but shouldn't be allowed to speak on the screen.

Funny, reminds me of a German friend who said that English people tend to speak German like they are SS barking orders in a war film. Cos all copying what they have seen. Think I will get some Muller. Put Great Escape on first tho.

	The voice quality is quite deep and resonant, so Karsten gets points there. The German accent does not impede understanding. It's an acquired taste. At first I considered it distracting, but after awhile found it charming. "Mating Furce", ahhh ok it's "Mating phase!" I just learned that from this thread. A few of Karsten's words here and there make me sit up and pay attention. "Analogously" was a humdinger, i remember. The authentic German accent is part of who he is, and i had no problem getting used to it. I find it beautiful that chess brings so many languages and cultures together. I also find the quality of Mueller's endgame material is unsurpassed. I've only watched volume #1 though... Edited: Moderator's note: I'd normally delete this and all references to it, but it seems harmless (and amusing) enough. If I receive complaints, I will clean this up. ~SF, Saint Patrick's Day, 2010

	i lke the fact thathe goes quickly and gets excited about endgames one can always replay anything one's missed. Better than the DVDs with slow explanations so less content.

	As a native English speaker, i have no problems understanding him. Actually i really quite like his delivery - lots of variation in speed and pitch makes him much more interesting than many presenters i have seen.

	From my limited understanding of the evolution of language, I would not be surprised if in a couple of hundred years, you would become 'Villem' as well...it's more economical (don't know the technical term)...maybe Afrikaans is giving you a glimpse of the future

Still I dont quite understand where the "v" is coming from as I think Afrikaners and Englishmen are perfectly capable of pronouncing a proper "w". William is pronounced william after all, but when it becomes Willem all of a sudden that is impossible

	Interesting, in kitchen Dutch aka Afrikaans, it's indeed pronounced 'Villem'...funnily enough, many Afrikans-speakers would pronounce 'film' as 'fillem'
