After 1 d4 Nf6 2 Nf3, why not 2 ...e6 meeting 3 c4 with 3 ...Nc6 transposing into the Tango? Of course, 3 c4 might well not be played, and moreover after 3 ...Nc6 4 Nc3 your best bet is probably to transpose to the Zurich Nimzo-Indian which may well be White's strongest anti-Tango choice, but then you were no doubt ready to do that after 2 c4 Nc6 anyway.

Hello,

I play Grunfeld against 1.d4 at the moment and "Grunfeld style" against reti, english etc., meaning I play ...d5 whenever white threatens to play e4.

Now for a number of reasons I feel like I need a second opening especially for when I do not know what my opponent will play against my Grunfeld.

I'm looking for something somewhat original but still fairly sound. I was thinking about the Tango (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 Nc6) but what puts me off is 2.Nf3 and suddenly I have to play my Grunfeld again.

Any suggestions?
