She's not very famous. But if you know how difficult it is to get a real good harp sound you'll like her a lot:

Willempie is completely right. For instance in 1943 and 1944 some orthodox protestants in The Netherlands thought it important to discuss the question if the snake in paradise actually used words when speaking or if this had to be understood as a metaphore.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaas_Schilder

(For those not having such a good grounding in Dutch history: the Netherlands in those years suffered from a few uninvited visitors. That visit costed eg Anne Frank her life. Before the schisma Schilder objected outspokenly to that very same visit.)

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

Country music. I like music that tells a story, not the rah, rah, kill for the country kind of song, but songs that recount tales of families, loyalty and friendship...real things that are experienced by real people.

Wasn't really looking for an argument.  Oh well.

Never argue with an idiot Dutchman. They drag you down to their level and beat you on experience Wink

PS I am not much into music, but do enjoy Salsa, Andre Hazes and rock like U2 or things like Prince

Philip Glass is the most famous one, but I prefer John Adams, especially his Shaker Loops. The word minimalism seems misplaced though. Even Glass himself does not use it. The music of Glass and Adams is not about using a minimum of means, it's about a minimum of development. For the motto more expression by less means, which in my opinion is the real minimalism, see Ustvolskaja again.

Markovich!

In 1986 I went to a Philip Glass Concert and met up with my future wife.  (We had gone to college together, but it was that concert that ignited the flame that became our marriage.)  I still have a soft spot for Glass' minimalism.

Oh, and I like - I'm not sure what to call it - music in the vein of Phillip Glass, Michael Nyman, and Yann Tiersen.

Just recently I've started exploring Spanish Flamenco music.

Having listened and also played a lot of flamengo myself (back in my 20s Cry ), I can suggest you also explore the older songs ('30s, '40s), since the feeling you get is without comparison. Of course, from the younger generations, Camaron stands out and I also liked a lot a Flamengo/fusion duo: Pata Negra..

That's duende Cool

My taste in music may seem pathetically mainstream, but I just listen to what I like. Some selected favorites:

Pop/Rock:
Leonard Cohen, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Sting, Eva Cassidy, Queen, The Beatles, Bee Gees, Supertramp, Dire Straits (and Mark Knopfler solo), Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, ToTo, The Killers

Classical and Film:
Vivaldi, Bach, Rameau, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Grieg, Rachmaninov, Larsson, Morricone, John Williams

"World Music" and Synth:
Enya, Secret Garden, Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, Loreena McKennitt, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield

Just recently I've started exploring Spanish Flamenco music.

I listen to a range of things, mostly Early Music, Baroque and especially Bach, Old-Time American, Celtic, English Folk, Old Jazz, the Blues, 1950s-60s Rock and "Folk Music," Fado, and "World Music."  Some of my favorite groups/performers are the Baltimore Consort, Musica Antiqua Koln, the Rose Ensemble, Jean Redpath, the Carter Family, the Boys of the Lough, the Pogues, Bix Biederbecke, Paul Whiteman, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli, Miles Davis, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Anita O'Day, Cristina Branco, and the inimitable Virginia Rodriguez.

I also like Opera music, especially Puccini's, and I enjoy going to the Opera.  My favorite opera is Carmen.

I mostly dislike Rock since the 1960s, Gospel music, so-called "Country" music, and classical orchestral music since Beethoven, with a few exceptions.  I don't exactly dislike the Beatles, but I don't exactly like them either.  I detest Barbara Streisand and pretty much the entire genre of Las Vegas club singing.

Ten Years After.

Alvin Lee was the fastest guy around in the early 70's, but he also was a one trick pony. Hence I prefer Ritchie Blackmore. No electrical guitarist had a better feel for melody. The way he incorporated classical influences (Highway Star is a fine example) is also fascinating.

Besides early hardrock I like Russian Classical Music, from Glinka to Ustvolskaja. Her Grand Duet for Cello and Piano beats every piece of rockmusic when it comes to agression and minimalism. The premiere was in Leningrad 1977.
