I'd willing to bet a decent amount of money that GM's get in free to ChessPub already.  Grin

I wouldn't bet too much if I were you! Even some 2700+ guys pay!

Pretty impressive. Even super GM's use Chesspublishing.com

Maybe Tony would agree to give one year Gold membership as a token on chesspublishing.com to the winning author.

Agreed, maybe Jacob could send me Marin's email address?

One other idea may be to write a composite review on the book and have a prominent link on the front page of the chesspub.com and chesspublishing.com websites, assuming Tony consents of course. Let those who voted give short reviews of the book and let someone take charge of pulling it all together in one central review. Already, many publishers and writers come to this board to discuss or defend their books. This award could be used as a tool to further  raise the profile and influence of the board and by extension of chesspublishing.com

That seems like a good idea, I'm happy to put the review on the ChessPublishing site, with a prominent link from the Home Page, but maybe this is superfluous as I've already written a brief review on the Flank section?

Yeah, but I didn't vote, and I would've voted for Schandorff.  So it's not really second, see?

A fine bottle of wine.

Wine from a pub?  I suppose.  But doesn't exactly yell Chess Pub, does it?  Maybe Tony has a nice cellar?

Tony's asked if the Pub members have any good ideas for how to reward GM Marin, beyond the obvious free subscription.

Any ideas?

Was in my top 3 opening books of the year so not a big deal.  Would be much worse if something with a few giant analytical holes like Kill Kid 1 won (still a good read though).

For me:
1. Shipov
2. Barksky
3. Marin

all are great books.  Shipov's hedgehog book was easily the best book with Barksky over Marin simply as I am much more likely to play his lines.

I doubt it. It is a business afterall. Unless the GM is a reviewer or is going to give such free PR, I can't see any advantage in giving away membership free to them.

The voting was close all the way through.

Congratulations to Mihail Marin!

Even though I voted for another book, I've been inspired to read two other books by Marin lately.

Ok, what do we do now?

Well, I voted for Marin. But I am impressed at how well the Stonewall book did. It makes me almost want to run out and buy it.

What do other organizations that have such polls do when the result is known?  At the very least, it is worth some bragging rights as I see Quality Chess has already broad-casted the result on their blog. That at least shows that opinion of this board is valued. Maybe Tony would agree to give one year Gold membership as a token on chesspublishing.com to the winning author.

At Quality Chess we are very proud that our core audience decided to pick not only one, but two of our very few 2009 titles to be in the top three. Thank you.
