There should be no reluctance to unseat a current player, because we want the strongest possible team.

That's somewhat a false dilemma - I am the lowest rated player of the the team and I already have expressed my willingness to quit. The next is Michael and he has paid the fee - not nice to drop him.
I am afraid this is not a very sensible post of yours, Markovich.

Hmm.  Well, it sounded sensible enough.  I didn't mean to offend you, dear chessfriend and teammate.  I mostly meant to call attention to my own perhaps doubtful place on our next team.

Well, as far as I'm concerned HgMan is still team captain and can freely choose / ask what team members he sees fit.

I disagree.  We're a community of which HgMan is only one member.  I am very happy that he was our team captain in two previous matches.  But this doesn't make the Chesspub Corr team, or teams, his personal property.  The match is over, so for the time being, there is nothing for him to be captain of.

I would think we would want to constitute the team on the basis of strength among those willing to play.  I can't imagine why this would be controversial.

Do we have to keep the same personnel in order to advance?  That could be a complication.

There should be, but Tony will have to decide if he wants to pay for it.

Just saw my list of opponents, and at least in my case I guess I should be happy with the draw as I get white against the four top rated. Other than that, I can only say that this, my first corr tournament / games, will hopefully be an interesting experience. As for goals, I suppose I should be satisfied if get close to 50%.

Any tips for a newbie at corr? And how does the other team members: Markovich, HGman & MNb feel about your list of opponents?

Seems as though you adapted well!  Congrats to the whole team!

I am not sure rating is the best way to do things as I have not played enough games on ICCF to be rated there and my rating at other corr sites is limited by the barriers that prevent one from playing stronger players. I have often found the correspondence chess world confounding in that sense. When I do play stronger players, I get to beat them but its so rare that my rating rarely ever moves.

Best might be to take our four highest rated players, FIDE or ICCF, among those willing to play, and play them in board order.  There should be no reluctance to unseat a current player, because we want the strongest possible team.

My ICCF rating was down to 2260, last time I checked.  I have no FIDE rating; my USCF rating is 2240.

I would love to play. Or alternatively as was also discussed somewhere in this thread, be a research supporter to someone in the team.

I understood that the first two qualify for the next round.
As I still clearly remember how hard the work was I'll be happy to hand over my place in the team.

Ah, it's finally over! Thanks all, but by now it feels like it happened in another life almost.

Congratulations Markovich, for finally getting that game off your back!

And I would also be interested in playing for the chesspub again, since by now I don't remember too vividly how much hard work it was and another corr IM norm could be an extra goal.

Btw, does the 2nd place mean that we advanced to a higher division next time?

In short, reading ChessPub Forum is worth about 100-150 rating points in correspondence.  Grin

My results in this event were not very satisfactory, but winning that last game felt good, Congrats to my teammates and especially to Taljechin for his really stellar performance. I would like to play for Chesspub again if given the chance.

Tajechin deserves first board which, let it be noted, I urged to our captain before this event began!

But all's well that ends well, so I think I'll go have a beer.

Good job, Markovich.

1 Ciutadella de Menorca 2292  31.5 65%
2 Chesspublishing.com 2177 29.5 61%
3 Ostschweiz 2302 29 60%
4 Rochade 5171 Bulldozer 2340 28 58%
5 KTS Krakov 2391 27.5% 57

Heh heh, it's nice to compare the average ratings.

Of course Taljechin with 10/12 deserves most of the credits.
