Congratulations from me too.
I still have three games going on. One I am going to win, the other two probably will end in draws, though the game against Ostschweiz is particularly difficult.
Michael, how are our chances to qualify?

Hard to say.  I'm the laggard here, having only completed four draws so far.  My problem is that so few of the games promise much in the way of real winning chances.  I have one won position, maybe two where I can claim any advantage of substance, and the rest are fairly equal.  And so I fight.  I'd be disappointed but satisfied with a +2 on my end.

As a team, we are chugging along at 60% and a +7, which is good.  We sit in 6th at the moment, but that's because we have completed fewer games than some of our opponents.  Three teams do have >60%, and the highest score right now is +10, but that's against the team I expect to beat on my board (and he still has a couple of games left against the frontrunners on my board, so that score could come down on Board 3 alone).  So, to answer your question: I don't know!

Thanks! Before the tournament I never would've imagined such a result in my first corr-tm. And now it feels kinda empty to log in at iccf and have no games in progress.

Will we have a new Champion's League team next January or is this event only biannual?

Here's a link to the last game:
http://www.iccf-webchess.com/MakeAMove.aspx?id=260814

13.Nd5!? was a nice move to play, and gain the edge, 22.Qh7+ and Bc3-e1-g3 was a crucial manoeuvre which I would never had contemplated in an otb game. But he defended resiliently, and it was not until 38...Bd8? that I was sure I'd win. (even if the alternatives looked pretty promising)

- Anyway, I'm a bit surprised that someone can spend almost two weeks on the position after 38.a5 only to come up with Bd8? - but maybe it was the "rybka endgame bug"? :)

Finally another one bit the dust, +7 =4 and just one game left. Black could have resigned months ago, but I guess I should be glad he didn't drag it out into next year...

http://www.iccf-webchess.com/MakeAMove.aspx?id=260832

Black is the highest rated in the group, but this is probably my easiest win in the tournament. 10...b4? is practically the decisive error, then I just followed Schandorff up to move 21, when 22.Rd1! is stronger than his recommendation and +- I believe, not new though - it already had 100% in two previous games...

Bump and update.

I'm nearly done with my games, standing at +6 =4 with two games left. Trying out corr-play has been an enjoyable experience and since the games have been going so well for me, I've actually just started a blog where I'll be commenting on the games in the order they were decided. First game will appear on Sunday the 8th of August and then more or less every Sunday evening until all have been accounted for. If the blogbug bites I might continue with other chess stuff as well...

http://borgchess.blogspot.com/

Btw, seeing the crosstable (http://www.iccf-webchess.com/EventCrossTable.aspx?id=20734) I noticed that it seems to be ordered according to game points and not match points. Is that officially what decides or is it just how they happened to sort the table?

Anyway, it seems that we might have a shot at taking one of the two qualifying spots to the B-group. At the moment we're 5th on game score but 2nd on percentage and 3rd on match points...

Bump and update.  The Chesspublishing team is currently sitting at 59%, good for the second best average at this point, 9.5 from 16 games.  We are, however, among the teams with the fewest completed games (at the top of the table, our closest rivals have scored 18.5/34 (54%), 15.5/25 (62%), and 14/24 (58%).  I'll leave my teammates to report on any concluded games of interest.  For my part, my only finished game was a fairly dull Exchange Lopez (I was Black).  White never really threatened much, and Black had no real chance at counterplay.  All a bit disappointing.  In fact, a number of my games have been rather staid affairs.  I hope to report on some good news soon...

Nice win TJ, though I was surprised to see your choice of opening (no KG!)

Thanks. Well, my main corr motivation was to try something new (or actually old, as I was a convinced 1.d4 and French player until the early 1990s).

Besides, after 1.e4 c5! it feels like an uphill battle for white. Especially since it seems very common in corr, so experienced corr players will have detailed files in all the critical MLs, while I've been playing the Grand Prix, Closed SI, and various 2nd/3rd moves for a long time now. - Ironically, it was the lure of the Open Sicilian that made me change to 1.e4 once upon a time..  Grin

Besides, as can be seen vs Triay - 1.d4 can be just as sharp as any crazy line after 1.e4.

Btw, I think 11.Qd3 vs Dorer and 18.Qe2 vs Triay Moll, are both novelties (after the game was over I saw that Dreev briefly mentions 18.Bf3, the comp's 1st choice..
If somebody wants Emms or Scherbakov to comment, send them an email!  Grin

Good luck with that, as Scherbakov hasn't even commented on Bacrot-Aronian yet - the stem game of 17.f4!? though this seems much more poisonous practically than theoretically.

Congratulations to TalJechin on his fine win.  With that victory, I'm pleased to report that the team is rolling along at a 61% rate, top in our group, although we have completed fewer games than most teams.
