I see nothing wrong with anything in this thread to be honest. If you delete this one you would have to delete at least 20 other ones also - there are a lot of chess book threads where the author or publisher starts chiming in. Personally I see nothing wrong with it as they didnt start the thread in the first place, and any extra information is fine by me!

As far as I am concerned, I don't have any problems with advertising a la Simon Williams, as long as the author makes clear that he advertises for him/herself. The way Rudel advertised for his book Zuke'm (or whatever) is much more misleading imo; he acted as if he was an enthusiast student of the book.
  
The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I have e-mailed Tony to ask for his opinion on this thread, since it seems to have caused some division. For what it is worth, I am inclined to agree with Markovich - the entire thread does not need to be deleted, but a couple of the comments are advertisements and I am dubious that such things should be allowed, whether or not they are in direct competition to this website. On the other hand, this is a grey area and I will leave our leader make the final decision in this instance.

Hi all,

This DVD is fantastic! I bought it off Simon's website as soon as it came out. It arrived yesterday in the post and needless to say, I didn't manage to get a great deal done apart from watch it! Simon, congratulations! I thought 'The Killer Dutch' was the best opening dvd that I have ever seen. I hope you are planning to do others.... Cheesy

I notice that the DVD is now also sold by the London Chess Centre. Maybe that means it will also be available in the US via Chess4Less in due time.

I must apologise if my earlier post came across as an 'advertisment' but I was actually answering a question that someone else had posted. 
This particular forum was also started by someone else and some of the questions raised have been very interesting. Smiley

I will try to answer some of your chess questions:
On 7...Ne4 8 Nxe4! This is the best move and a real pain for this variation. My main recommendation is 8...fxe4 9 Nd2 d5 10 f3 c5!? which is interesting and messy. 
I do believe that 2 h3!? is a very interesting, new and underrated way of playing against any Dutch set up. I say 'any' as this is one of the main pluses of this move, there is less to learn by playing 2 h3.
In my DVD I recommend that Black plays 2...d6 3 g4 e5!? 4 dxe5 Nc6!? a counter gambit!
I have suggested an interesting way of meeting the Staunton Gambit, 1 d4 f5 2 e4 fxe4 3 Nc3 Nf6 4 Bg5 c6!? This was suggested to me by a strong Russian GM and I believe that it is far superior to the more popular 4 Nc6. I believe that the problem with 4...Nc6 is that White can play 5 d5 Ne5 6 Qe2!
I do think that this DVD would be of use to players graded 2400 plus as it has some new ideas in it but I have tried to aim the DVD at players below this range, concentrating on the main ideas behind the opening and not remembering the moves 'Parrot' fashion.
In the DVD I try to cover everything and in a deep way that is not superficial. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I would hate to bring anything 'shabby' out but I guess that it is really the viewers job to judge this!

That might be the website playing up/not quite ready.  Try emailing Simon and see how he responds.  I know for a fact he's got a box full of DVDs in cases ready to be sold ... I saw them at Hastings at his Dutch themed tournament!

Aren't there a lot of threads here that could be labelled 'commercials'? For one thing every time Gambit, Everyman and Quality Chess list a new book in the pipeline, we seem to instantly get a thread about it here. 

And over the years we've had many threads where authors have been answering questions regarding their books - I'm guilty of that myself - and apart from this one, there's a recent thread about Mongoose's new Catalan book...

So deleting this one could start a domino effect if you're consistent - and if you're not consistent it just seems unfair.
