Hello:

I think this may have been covered recently? You might want to search recent threads. I think the main idea is to train as much as possible in the same environment, board and pieces, you use for OTB.

Take care,

Gerry

OTB vs Computerized study

It finally occured to me, after all these years, that I could read a chess book 'on the computer.'  Take Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual, for example.  I have the book and the CB version that came out at the same time.  So (after all these years!) I finally realized that I could read the book while making all the moves on the ChessBase screen, saving time in setting up positions, etc.

Beyond the obvious - looking at variations in my head before playing them out on the screen - is there any downside to this method?  I know that one good way to increase board sight is to 'memorize' board positions in print diagrams and set them up on a board for solving, and I still intend to do this by solving studies and positions (from Imagination in Chess, for example) with a clock and time limit.  But is there any downside to doing more studying on the computer screen?
