One quick answer would be, it is not at all necessarily the case that the play will be mainly on the queenside in the Panno (/Yugoslav).

It might be impossible to "study all theory," but one can, for example, study some thematic annotated games.

I would really like ask if this is a way of approching the opening?, because at some points it is impossible to study all theory. Take this line in KI;

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. g3 Bg7 4. Nf3 O-O 5. Bg2 d6 6. O-O Nc6 7. Nc3 a6 8. Yes probably that move you were thinking of has been played  Cool Cool. So trying to be theoretic here is just redicilus. This is the whole board.

But e-h file is symmetric and gives both Kings good protection so the play will be on the queensside mainly, so a
more imortant picture is.

This diagram shows the range of c1 and c8 bishops very clearly taking away the focus from the open centrum issue

One have know in general: What do you want to do with your pieces? How can I improve my position here? What is more important space or winning the war of d5? There are many other important things like how aggresive is white? Should I setup for tactical game or more waiting for errors by playing a strategyapproach?

If this post have any value at all and the ideas of splitting the board to its important parts is sound then this concern almost all openings, i mean even one like to play the classical mar del plata in KI, it is still good to think about what should the postion look like in 5-10 moves from now.

humble
