the c6 gruenfeld against the fianchetto is one of the major reasons why I changed to the saemisch.
I am still waiting for my book to arrive, so far amazon hasn't send out any shipping confirmation Sad

The ...c6 and ...d5 Grunfeld is what I was most curious as to how he was going to "solve". It'd be nice if his idea there ends up being critical...

I noticed Sebastian Bogner (a young German GM) playing what is apparently Avrukh's recommendation against the ...c6 Gruenfeld a couple of weeks ago.  It occurred to me that Joe Gallagher advocated the Black side of that sort of thing in his KID book of about six years ago, "losing a tempo" with the d-pawn rather than the c-pawn.

I have my copy, and it is magisterial.  I've been over some of the key positions, and you can argue with the evaluations, but you can't argue that this is one of the most important and interesting works of chess ever published.  As with Volume I, there are many new ideas.  The opinions of this strong GM deserve to be taken very seriously.

The work continues in the technical vein of Volume I.  It's not a repertoire for blood-and-guts attacking players, but in most cases, as in the first volume, White's initiative eventually develops.

It's rather massive at over 600 pages, but that's all to the good.  An important feature of the work is that it disposes so systematically of so many annoying little systems, like the Czech Benoni and other weird Benonis.

Big surprise, he recommends the Fianchetto against the KID, Gruenfeld and even against the Modern Benoni.  Avrukh says that the "solid" line of the Fianchetto Gruenfeld, with ...d5 and ...c6, gave him more anguish than any other in the whole series.  I can understand that, but he has a typically fresh idea there that could be important.

I'm very interested myself in the Fianchetto KID (I reach it from the English). Less so in the Grunfeld.
