I've given you a KID sub till the end of the month. Smiley

I think its bad business and quite aggravating to send notifications of expired subs when updates are outstanding.

Those expired sub emails are sent out automatically, I don't think that we have any control over them here.
Presumably you already downloaded the Feb update?

I agree, I'd rather see a good job than a fast job. My only complaint has been resolved by Tony already (ie:). Not that Mikhail is late, but the subscriber won't lose what they pay for (guaranteed the 12 updates rather than the year that might be less).

Mikhail,

I have to say that the quality of your updates is quite high and I only subscribed to the KID section because you took the responsibility for it.  Smiley

So far I have not been disappointed, and also the score in my KID games is at least satisfactory.

I can understand that some people are upset because the update is late, but better that than low quality updates.
Perhaps a solution can be found for people whose subscription expired before getting the updates for the months they payed for?!

Dear subscribers,

the February update is posted and the intention is to fix all remaining schedule problems (i.e. updates for March and April) by the end of April.

It is quite hard work in fact (even to select games from hundreds of GM games in not an especially easy task), I do not want to do it below a certain acceptable level; alas there were too many surprises that affected my working schedule and I did not wish to sacrifice the level of my updates, hence these highly regrettable delays.

Apologies, and thanks for understanding. There will be a lot of King's Indian's in the near future!

Mikhail

Any info on why they're usually late with the updates? Bad work moral? Too many tournaments? Other obligations?

If you know why, it may be easier to find a solution. E.g: if the tournament life is too time consuming there must be many less active GMs with a reputation of being reliable that could step in as temporary reserves or take over...

Sometimes tournaments, but it mostly seems to be book contracts! Some of our writers appear to be writing rather a lot of these!
I always suggest they take 2/3 days to write the ChessPub update and then go back to writing their book, rather than finish their book and do the update a month late! Wink
Although some chessplayers seem to be lazy, a lot of them have to work very hard to make money these days ... rather more than 8 hours/day! Undecided

Simply because it is not a 'failed site'! I really like Mikhail's work, he is a real expert on the KID and his updates are always excellent.
Sections occasionally get behind for one reason or another (we've had these same discussions in the past elsewhere!) and rather than replace my writers every time, I prefer nagging them to get back on time as in my opinion the quality of the chess material is more important than an occasional tardiness.

An exclusive Global King's Indian Database
Hot new moves, the best players, the best games, improvements on theory with my own suggestions will all be here. You will have the opportunity to add to this database yourselves by mailing me your own games and ideas. In this way, by exchanging the very latest information, we will all stay on the cutting edge.

Variation Overviews
The King's Indian lends itself to heavy analysis. I'll be separating the wheat from the chaff for you, giving brief, accurate Variation Overviews so that you know exactly how the top players view all the Main Lines at any given time. Opinions change and you'll be the first to know about these changes.

An exclusive Global King's Indian Mailbag
As you've seen, you can send me your games. If they are interesting in any way, I'll publish them. You can also send me opening questions or more general queries about the King's Indian. Each month we'll have an independent section of the site devoted exclusively to your ideas. This is a resource area for ALL players from Grandmaster to Beginner. E-Mail me right now and let`s start the ball rolling.

Literature Section
If any new books, videos, cd's come out on the King's Indian, I'll be reviewing them OBJECTIVELY here. There won't be any waffle as can often happen when magazines or bookshops are trying to make a sale. I have no vested interests. You'll see a list of the stuff I used to make up the database, with my comments, to kick-start this section.

Finally may I wish you much enjoyment from this HI-TEC site. I am looking forward to making your acquaintance and to working on the King's Indian together.

Ask GM Simon Williams to take over.

A KID convert with a refreshingly gung-ho approach to chess and some experience presenting materials via online media.

You might want to consider a bonus for those who gets their update in on time and/or a penalty for each week it's delayed.

That's already been the case for the last 8 years or so - if there weren't penalties for lateness none of the updates would arrive on time!! Roll Eyes

They are chess players. Never had what may be termed 'a proper job'.
So not accustomed to the need to be:
a) punctual
b) suitably attired
c) clean and coiffed
