Smyslov, I've been taking half point byes on all afternoon games in my past tournament, however the thing is it rigs up the pairings I have to play and pretty much puts me in a tough situation when there are only 4 rounds in the tournament. I only get to play 2, the first one I'm almost certain to have a high rated strong opponent, and the next a lower rated strong opponent giving me a chance at a 0-2. This may be my last tournament, I want to give myself a chance.
Also, i sometimes play on ICC in the afternoons, blitz is fine, but slow games have the same affect, I start off fine, but in the middle game to endgames I start to feel totally out of it. Standardized tests don't give the same feeling, I'm tired yes, but they don't really wipe me out like a 4 hour game of chess can. Especially since I almost always go into long endgame grinds.
The stress is big, I have to admit that, I try meditating before the rounds and at night before I sleep to try and clear my head but I just can't

No matter how hard I try I can still some of the pressure building up.
My next tourney is near the end of June, because of tight summer plans etc. in the next few years, it may be my last USCF tournament, it's a 4 round tournament and I want to give myself the best possible chance condition wise.
