I made a lengthy (unpublished until now) analysis of this endgame at the end of 2008 for a study I had to analyse for the Schwalbe. While the article in German, I hope it is still useful.

The ending arises in study hhdbiii 26341 in a try.

1.f5 Rb5 2.f6 Rb8 3.f7 Rf8 4.Kc1 Kxb3 5.Kb1! Ka3 6.Kc2 draws.

If 5.Bh7? Kc3!! 6.Bg8 Kd4 7.Kb2 Ke5 8.Ka3 Kf6 9.Ka4 Ra8, the position is reached where my analysis starts.

If I do a translation, I will update this posting (if so, in the next few days). It will at least be necessary to add the other white defense with 10.Ka3, so the chances are good. Smiley

  • Mueller/Lamprecht: Fundamental Chess Endings
  • Dvoretski (sp?): Endgame Manual, german title: Endspieluniversität
  • Awerbach: Lehrbuch der Schachendspiele (from the 1970-ies)

The basic positions are known since Guretski-Cornitz 1863, Cozio 1766 and Lequesne 1858, thus the age of the endgame book probably doesn't matter  Smiley

Somewhere I have read the ending K+R+a or h pawn against K+B is a very tricky one when the defending King is favoribly placed in front of the passer. I am searching through my endgame books for this ending currently. Meanwhile can someone recommend a good source with detailed analysis to study this endgame ?
