	Aronian and Akopian came to mind, but not Carlsen. He's won some special endgames, especially double rook endgames. But he's also left a few points on the table (as has everyone on the list). Salov? One of the five best ever? That one was completely unexpected. I just looked at a few games of Salov's at chessgames.com. He lost two endgames in a row (on their site) in the 1998 Wijk aan Zee tnmt, to Anand and Topalov. Why should Salov have been on the list? Which endgames of his should I study? Who else did I miss? Lucena? Huebner?

	Enough players for me to pick five. But I predict if you ask the same question in a decade's time, Carlsen will have to be on the list. I guess he hasn't played long enough on top level yet.

	I think Fischer's endgame skills are vastly underappreciated, I guess overshadowed by his other great skills. I voted for him. I actually struggled over whether to include Capablanca, which I eventually did. I remember multiple pieces of analysis of Dvoretsky's that called into question (to me) Capa's prowess, but I did end up voting for him.

	I left Smyslov out of my vote because he struck me as performing magic with positional edges in the middlegame that made the endgame easier to work. I noticed SmyslovFan voted for Smyslov, with the other votes the same as my own. I went with Botvinnik - he produced some amazing endgame analysis, and I have to give him the nod. It was one of the phases of the game perfectly suited to his methodical, rigorous approach to chess, and he was great at it. All of the others I didn't vote for obviously had a high level of endgame skill, so it was hard to leave them off.

	2288 USCF, 2186 FIDE. FIDE based on just 27 games.
